MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:12 PMIf your upset now, just wait till you see the unused concepts that Ridley abandoned in place of the stuff that made it on screen. Photos from that unreleased as yet book on the making of the movie are starting to show up... Why he didn't use some of that stuff instead is beyond me.

MemberDeaconJun-06-2012 2:23 PMSeems that Lindelof gave him the idea to rewrite the script and tone down any connection with Alien and not show the Xenos and Face Hugger that aparently Spaits Script ended with.....
Lindelof said they wanted to avoid the done to death Face Huggers and Xenos and Chest Busters......
Then give us the same thing only slightly different lol....
I actually think the changes they tried to make gave us a much more bold movie than a direct Alien prequel....
Only while the plot was better and good, the movie needed 3 hours to tell such a tale certainly 30 min longer than it was.
Futhermore Lindelofs DNA and his ideas of Ambiguity are in this movie and it really shows in some scenes..
I dont think its that bad, some may be mad because its not a direct Alien Prequel with no real answers and does not end with a Derelict on LV 426.
Those who expect that are going to be dispointed....
I got past that, never bothered me, neither did so many mystreys that are left like what happened to the Engineers, what was they running from... its all left to interpretation etc....
Nope i have a few issues with the movie that have nothing to do with above..... they are issues that some of the Characters at times come across a bit retarded compared to what you expect given the plot and who there characters are suposed to be.
Oh and i am not talking about Milburn and Fifield....

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:35 PMI know , this is no Alien prequel, but anyway- there is Space Jockey, Derelict ship( no the same of course) - but still could be better like this. I'm just sorry for you guys - how many comments about plot and every news about Prometheus- waste time. This is real insult for every Alien fans...!

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:38 PMHey, guys. I'm in the U.S., so the film hasn't come out yet here. I've been Wicked wicked excited about this- Huge fan of the alien franchise, and excited to know where the Space-Jockey comes from and what his deal is all about. I've come up with several ideas about how he's related to the Xenomorphs and why they might be stored in stasis on the dudes ship. Anyway, don't spoil anything for me, but i was just wondering why you thought this movie was so bad?

In part because the ideas and aire of mystery that surrounds the original Space Jockey is nowhere to be found in Prometheus. The epic, disturbing and provocative sci-fi project, that would shake the world of movies turned out to be a mediocre action-flick with a shallow story.

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:50 PMI would have been happy if this movie had been set in an entirely different universe and had no link to the Alien franchise at all. It's been done to death and it's milked dry. It amazes me how the apologists for this film cling to the idea that anyone who thought it was weak just didn't understand it or expected a direct prequel. That just isn't the case at all. The movie is just not very good. Ridley started off with a really neat idea, but he let it sputter and fizzle, and die on screen.

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:52 PMwell put takka. not one person has said 'best movie ever!' Even the positive reviews say something like 'check your baggage at the door' or go assuming its not 'this' or dont expect 'that.'
BS-the previews made it what it is...

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:57 PMThe worst thing is, that it´s not bad on the premises of the original idea to move away from Xenomorph-territory - it´s bad because it chose to visit well known and worn out territory. Had it been bad because the grand mythology couldn´t stand alone, then at least they would have tried something fresh. The chance of a lifetime with so many interesting notions, and they wasted it.

I dont think you have to feel betrayed...
You have not seen the movie and there are many who have and who really enjoyed it, so it does not matter what they think. If you end up really liking the movie thats great.
I dont see peoples problems with the fact the movie shows so little to do with Alien as they would... some think it has to many links...
Yes i love some of that concept work, that Fifield mutation is awsome, maybe they was cut because they felt it would be too close a DNA to the Alien Xeno and they wanted to reserve any Alien DNA purely for Shaws Baby and what eventually becomes of that process.
So we dont end up seeing no Engineer on LV 426 getting torn open from the inside.... Big Deal....
Ridley said he never wanted to go for the direct route, and the way the movie ends means he could explain more of a link in future movies.
I mean did people complain when in Phantom Mennace we never saw no one get into the Vader Suit? Nope.... Ridley may have same idea here, that the explanation may be shown more in following movies but again they may not be directly linked.
My problem with the movie apart from some elements that go against the grain of what i feel the Characters agenda and purpose was...
Is the scope of this movie was huge, they had a lot of ideas and you just could not fit them all in and do justice within the 2 hours of the movie.
The it seemed like the movie was split into 3 parts and that part 1 took 1 hour and was very well paced, and the last part of part 3 was not badly paced, but that meant the 2nd act and half of act 3 had to be fitted into like 40 mins when really to continue with the same pace the first hour had the movie needed a running time of 160 mins or even 180 mins.
Still its not a bad movie, far from it....
Ok people who really wanted to see this movie fit in with Alien as much as Aliens etc would be disapointed....
some may not be happy at Lindelofs involement for me, i can see some of his DNA on some parts but its not as bad as i worried, its not as LOST as LOST for instance...
So i stand by my main gripe and thats just its a shame we never had a extra 30-40 min or more to add some depth to the many elements that was trying to be told...
But you know what Prometheus 2 gives Ridley the chance to zero in on a few of them and explore them in more depth...

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 4:48 PM@Visualiser: It's hard to put into words to be honest.
Just like in '77 it's a sort of 'Life before and life after Prometheus' feeling.
A milestone in my film-going. An EVENT. Also the best looking film I've seen in a long time. And it's captured my imagination. I feel very inspired by it.

Visually and attention to detail the movie is fantastic..... and more so when you see some of that unused concept and prop work.
Seems like the Special Effects guys had made some mutations and monsters that never made it, in the French SPFX Magazine some of the Special Effects team did say they do not know if there work makes it into the final movie.
We have to assume that means some of it was ready to go/ready to use.
i understand some of these may had been cut/not used so as that they can savour the Alien DNA untill the last 8 mins and not show the monsters prior to have too much Alien DNA which some of the concept work looked like it did.
But boy did the unused Fifield Animatronic look awsome....
