Things I really liked about the movie:
1. Stunning visuals
2. Great set designs, production value overall.
3. Hollowman dies,...horribly.
4. The movies strident, though unfortunately unrealised ambition. 5/10 for effort.
5. Nearly everyone dies.
6. I really loved David, or was it Fassbenders performance. At any rate this is what holds an other wise mediocre movie together.
7. David survives.
What I disliked.
1. Shaw survives.
2. The universal childish naivete of the crew. They didn’t even know what they signed on for until they got to the planet/moon. Give me a break. That clunker aside, they build a $1(how many zeros in trillion?) ;) ship and staff it full of m%r*ns. They couldn’t afford some professionals?
3. A young Guy Pearce playing an old Guy Pearce. It was so unconvincing I wanted to reach into the glorious 3D and start peeling back the fake looking latex. Seriously good, talented, bodering on ancient actors out there that would have been much better suited to this unnecessary and engaging character. IMDB has a list, right at the top, Eli Wallach, Christopher Lee, dare I whisper ‘The Shatner’, just kidding.
4. Lindorks plodding, thoughtless, plot hole riddled script. Did I miss a writers strike or something?
5. Scott for working with said script.
6. David wasn’t a lone survivor.
7. Didn’t some of those ancient civilisations have primitive, pictorial, hieroglyph forms of writing that could be deciphered, and solve the mystery of ‘is it a warning or an invitation?’ horseshit. David could have deciphered it seeing as the resident archaeological experts weren’t up to the task.
8. Is it just me or does the editing seem off.
Indifferent:
1. Apparent discrepancies over the size/scale of the Engineers compared with Alien.
2.The clunky connections to the Alienverse.
Feel free to add your own or set the cat among the pigeons and disagree on any of them!
