MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 12:50 PMWhat made me lose interest very early, and what made me justify why I lost interest at the end of the movie, was why did they not arrive with a fleet of space cruisers?
Ofcourse this is a privately funded mission, but atleast pack the ship w/ people so the final scene doesnt consist of 5 humans representing Earth. I know some redneck or a Somali pirate would have fought harder than 2 laser shots and some screams.
I honest was more shocked than dissappointed that one "Engineer" was able to swat down the human race because we arrived to a miraculous event w/ an android, an old man, a post-surgery scientist, and 2 other (very random & un-named crew members). I would imagine a trillion-dollar program, with ALL of Earth probably watching on live-feed, there would be at least 100 humans wielding rifles when we awaken the last engineer.
Our whole legacy was swatted by 2 laser shots and a fleeing scientist.
Alright, we came more prepared, and shot down the angry engineer; now what? Well first of all, we get David to turn on the star maps, 2nd, we located the other ships, 3rd we realized with the angry Engineer dead; We are totally safe and can resume surveying this moon!! Probably another 2+hours with maybe even more encountering w/ the "Engineers" on...I dont know, maybe the other 4/5's of the moon they missed?!?
Many countries have WMD's on Earth.....there is still MUCH life on Earth elsewhere.... Shaw didnt even survey the planet afterwards...check the jungles...the oceans?...aww shucks forget it. I'll wait for the sequel/extra footage.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 1:06 PMWTF? I think you're watching, or wanting, a different film. The whole point (though it wasn't given too much attention in the film) is that it was a personal mission for Weyland to meet these engineers. He probably kept it secret, and wanted a personal audience with our 'creators' for purely personal reasons, not for the good of humankind or the advancement of science - he just wanted to be immortal! Just one of the themes of the film, so surely the engineer had every right to kill all those arrogant pricks who woke him up just to serve them. Probably even confirmed the need to wipe us out! What a bunch of selfish nobs!

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 1:09 PMPlus, I hope you're not in charge when we do meat some aliens. '100 humans wielding rifles'. Not much of a 'hello'. If I were an engineer I would swat the lot just for the pure cheek. Who do you humans think you are? Do you know who I am? It's not all about you, ya know!

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 1:31 PMYou are missing my point, they were amazingly Under-staffed, and that led to their demise. And i'm saying they should be PROTECTED, not read to shoot on command...
Peaceful or angry aliens, you can never assume in nature. The human-beings universal, natural "positive assumptions" of treat others how you would like to be treated is completely ridiculous.

MemberOvomorphJun-07-2012 10:20 PMIt was a 1 Trillion Project. Most of the staff didn't even believe or were aiming to look for some Creator Species.
It cost 1 company a trillion dollars in the year 2090s. So let's estimate that there will be companies in that future having market caps along the lines of 10-15 trillion. At 2012, the largest capped companies are Microsoft and Apple reaching 614 and 601 Billion Dollars respectively.
Both present companies can only amass 60-100 Billion Dollars money in the Bank.
So if weyland spent a trillion dollars for some research project, Stockholders would get really pissed at his company if they event spent more.
Based from the movie, no government was even involved and if you're some 30-40 lightyears away from Earth you can't live feed this anytime soon.
So the 1 ship fleet for this movie as a research vessel is pretty acceptable.
Just checkout James Cameron going to the deep. It was an expensive adventure and they only used 1 diving vessel since it's so expensive also and very technical. What if he met some giant squids, octopuses or some new fish species and rip his sub in half? No military there also since it's a purely research expedition.
Anyway just my 2 cents. Hope that helps.
