Not sure if anyone has mentioned this interview as yet but they both reveal a lot of information with regards to what they had in mind with a fair few of the scenes they shot, which help tie up some of the 'plotholes' that some here have been critical about. The engineer at the beginning, the "black goo", Guy Pearce, etc. Helps make sense of some of the scenes in the movie. Get the screenplay right and all this technology enhances it. But when the screenplay is weak… The technology is the means to the end, the screenplay is the end. If you get that right first, the rest is relatively straightforward. "

Honestly that quote is really ridiculous and really damn annoying. I very, very rarely get so aggravated but I want to punch my into my laptop screen right now.

Thanks for the great link. Certainly makes me understand why the movie is the way it is. I thought many of the questions it leaves were unintentional. Bring on Prometheus 2 and 3!

Well Ridley and Lindelof succeeded in one sense, those who have viewed the film have come to communities like this and are engaged in all manner of discussions about the true nature of the black goo and other themes raised about the movie. And they were both well aware that the true-blue ALIEN fans would feel robbed of their closure. See, I'm OK with opening up the universe more, but at least offer to answer *some* core questions. I mean, what if Prometheus bombed? Now you made a bad situation (ALIEN Resurrection & the AVP films) and made it worse. The Star Wars prequels "failed" not because they tied loose ends, they failed because they lacked the defining elements which made the original films a success. I wanted Prometheus to be to ALIEN what Empire Strikes Back was to Star Wars; I think many here feel the same, but whereas Empire stands on it's own beautifully, Prometheus was thinned out too much.

Glad you all liked the link. It's an interesting, and occasionally infuriating, read. How can there not be an extended cut in future? This movie is in dire need of one. How Ridley thinks it is "a good length, the dynamics are about right" is baffling.

Molecular - totally agree with what you say about Prometheus being thinned out too much, and about the Star Wars prequels failing not because they tied loose ends, but because they lacked the defining elements which made the original films a success. For those wondering why the Star Wars prequels have been brought up & compared to this "prequel", well, Lindelof started it...
