personally i think lindelof and scott suffered from very limited imaginations maybe the curse of being older people but are you telling me after getting a 100 million year headstart on humans our present day technology is almost similar to the space jockey engineers. with that much of a headstart compared to humanity you'd should have been at true god status by now. i mean it took like 2100 years to go from donkey and cart to intergalactic ftl space travel, assuming another 1000 years we would be at space jockey level technology, but within that time their tech never advanced...i mean really? they could have gone completely wild with futuristic concepts that are thousands and thousands of years ahead from what currently exists in the movies timeline, like...engineers developed a way to bypass death thru...mixture of nanotech rebuilding and dna, so if they are are destroyed they could just come back slowly, like a biological version on the liquid metal terminator.(now thats advanced) instead wwe got "yeah the space jockeys are advanced but we humans happened to catch up with them, despite them having a million year headstart?"

Maybe the film is cautionary tale that if we don't give up our warmongering ways we will become like the Engineers. I mean to make zero advances (aside from making your flying saucers U shaped) after millions of years is a failure on a colossal scale. It is also strange that they still use "black goo" as their primary weapon. One would think that the next step after intergalactic travel and mastery of biotechnology would be something more advanced than making slow ships without shields and hand-to-hand combat.

But thats the thing if you are at war, for millions of years then you should have advanced far beyond were you have started, because thats one of the "benefits" of war constant advancements.

@ itsjeremy I completely agree with you as that was what I was thinking. Maybe the reason the engineers haven't advanced as much as us is the same reason why they wanted to destroy us? Perhaps the time they take to learn and evolve is much much slower than that of humans and that is what makes humans threatening. For instance David the android has demonstrated that he can advance far quicker than humans in terms of learning and if there where an entire planet of androids created then I am sure humans would feel threatened by them akin to the terminator and matrix. Lindelof did say somewhere that generations (engineer - human - android) is important.
