MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 3:29 AMSince the ship never successfully takes off, how does it end up crashing on LV426 with an Engineer at the helm, instead of dead in Vickers' life pod? The only conclusion I can come up with is that it is a different ship that they find in Alien.
Also, if I'm correct, the bulk of Prometheus takes place in 2094, while the events of Alien take place just 28 years later in 2122... I suppose 28 years is enough time for a xeno to lay all those eggs, but it's a lot shorter than I think a lot of us thought. Though, of course, if it is a different ship, like one from that first wave of Engineers we see fleeing in the hologram, it could have been a lot earlier. Sorry, I'm tired, now that I type all that out, I realize it's pretty obviously not that ship at all, lol.
Related question though, why is the alien we see at the end so eerily similar to a xeno, but just different enough as to draw attention to the fact that it's not exactly a xenomorph? Are we just meant to take away that the Alien we know and love is just one of any thousands of similar weapons those canisters contained? Shoot, did I just do it again? haha... time for bed :)

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 3:52 AMI think is better if you relate the two things just as they share the same background ...so you have an high advanced race that while was terraforming a planet and while they were researching bio weapons got overrunned by the same weapons they were producing .
That kind of "weapon" produce DNA monsters that share some similarities ( oral impregnation , chestbusting ) maybe because of the DNA that was first used for the black goo .
So when shit does happen many Engineers die in a very different way ... one of them is the pilot of Alien that was carring a cargo of canisters ( that in hundeds of years were biologically trasformed into eggs IMO ) , but his story have no relation with prometheus

MemberOvomorphJun-08-2012 6:29 AMIt's like what Captain America First Avenger is, to Iron Man. Takes place on the same "Earth", one happens before the other, but it isn't a prequel.

MemberOvomorphJun-16-2012 4:18 PMMy opinion is that these movies exist in the same universe, if you will. Prometheus happens 22 years before the events in Alien. Prometheus introduces the fact that there are many of the bioweapon installations around the cosmos, and they are all within human obtainable distances by this time in the future. The one on LV223 was reached first by humans, and introduced Wayland Corp. to these events. I am assuming that all events up to the discovery of Wayland being present on board were transmitted back to Earth (maybe by David?) to Wayland Corp. personnel. At some point, a decision was made to be on the lookout for similar installations in the future in order to exploit these installations for human based weapons research.
Could it be that the Alien crew was sent to mine ore in a location near the bioweapons facility on LV426? That's what I want to know!
Ridley did a masterful job of "showing" more than "telling," just like he did in Alien. Well done, Sir Ridley! I hope he will helm at least one more!!
