i don't think it could have been much better, and if you want the nightmare world of Giger, pick up one of his coffee table sized art books. He had a clinical condition where he would have nightmares while he was awake. Do you really want 2 hours of nothing but disturbing nightmare? i think a little sprinkle here and there is best

You're not the first member that has made a comparison to Star Trek. I'm trying to figure out where this observation is coming from. Are you referring to classical 60's Star Trek monsters?

Agreed. I would have preferred ginger at the helm of the creature design.. If that last scene was supposed to satisfy the alien fans .. Well... Sorry. The cone head alien left the amc San Francisco opener crowd laughing... That was a disgrace!! Set designs were great, environments were cool but highly disappointed here.

I think the star trek link is coming from the uniform space suits and corney dialogue..... It did seem stupid having two jokers getting lost...... one of them was meant to be the expert who mapped the structure and had a wrist device telling him how to navigate...... cheese = startrek..... I thought the creature were quite good. Petting the hammerpede / cobrahugger took any fear factor from the scene, but it seemed much more effective and dangerous than the classic facehugger.....

Re Star Trek... I also think it is from the 4th track called "Life" on the soundtrack. Very TREK IMO

staff: no, I wasn't implying that far (60s) down the sci-fi chain.
I was referring to Later Star Trek, or Star Trek Movies

I have to totally agree with the OP. For me there was not enough Giger imagery in this movie. The creatures were uninspiring and boring, and looked like something you would see in any sci-fi or monster movie. I understand that they wanted to move away from the original alien design but there are a ton more of Giger designs that they could have used. In moving away from that original feeling they have forgoten about what really made the first film and the space jockey so interesting to start with.
Even the star map/jockey room, which was a joy to see on the big screen again didn't have the same creepiness feeling to it. I think it was down to the fact it looked more mechanical and flat, where as the original Giger one was organic and sent shivers up my spine (and still does).

Don't forget Captain Picard also liked to play the flute!

I thnk you refer to Lindeldork and Spaihts crappy Star Trek Reboot dialogue: "why don´t you pay me on the other side" and the like...
:)
