Burned Engineer?

Maybe this has been discussed but the trailers for the film show a burned/injured Engineer attacking Shaw. When/How does he get burned in the film? I can't seem to find out when that happens based on the plot explanations I've read.

you could make a guess at it from the trailer (trailer gives away too much)... but I don't want to spoil it.

Either cuddles burns him during the attack or he's burned in the crash
