MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 1:44 PMThe guy created us is the betrayer in his companions' eyes just as PROMETHEUS. That is why the the engineers want to kill humans.
I don't think the engineers created human beings. The human beings are an unexpected specie to them. The first guy at the beginning of the movie who drank the black goo is obviously like "PROMETHEUS"---The betrayer of the other gods. He sacrificed himself to spread high-level DNAs on earth just like PROMETHEUS gave fire to human beings. AND it is his individual decision and behavior. In the movie, he seemed lonely and the backgroud is his fellows' leaving airship.
If it was their common decision, it should be more reasonable that there was a ceremony for his great sacrifice.
When other engineers found humans which were the same or most similar high-level creatures like them were created. They felt kind of competition and anger. But as humans were in development and our tech were far behind them, they have plenty of time to observe us and the paintings in the cave are the prove. And when our society become mature, they will finally test their bio-technology on us to see the results since our DNA match them best and we should be the best testers. The guiding map is a trap or death invitation or death warning.
That is why they created us and then want to kill us. Actually, one of them betrayed and created us and the others are waiting a best chance to kill us.
That is why the engineer waked up by humans immediately decided to kill humans. It was their plan to destroy humans but the plan just hadn't been executed because the bioweapons they developed were out of their control and killed themselves. I think the engineer we found was a survival one and he knew the severity of the status. He will continue the plan to stop humans' development. They think we are threats to his mother planet. They don't want humans to be equal as them just as we created robots to serve us, but when robots want equality and they are out of our control and dont want to be just servers, what will they do? And what will we do? Creators have creators.
Finally, forgive my poor English.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 1:54 PMHi, but i dont think that the guy who
Sacrificed himself on earth is the only
one who betrayed the others. Why?
because the pictograms from several
ancient civilizations showed that mankind
Was visited by engineers several times.
but around the year 90 a.d. something
happened that caused the engineers
Want to wipe all life out on earth.
or maybe there was a revolt among
The engineers where a faction wants
To re-seed the earth.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 3:41 PMOkay, one thing I have to point out is that so far most of the fans I see talking about the Prometheus myth totally disregard a lot of it.
That said, I think I agree and here are a few facts about the myth that back us up a bit. In the myth Prometheus created man from clay. Also, Prometheus, unlike his brothers, created his creatures to populate the earth after the shape of the gods much like how humans are in the film compared to the Engineers.
The one part that makes me doubt is that Prometheus didn't sacrafice himself. He stole fire and gave it to man and was punished for his transgression. Also, Prometheus was freed by Heracles and was allowed to return to Olympus.
Basically, I think the myth applys to a few different characters in the film in a few different was.
People really need to take a look at the myth. Not just listen to Weyland's
TED speech.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 6:46 PM@Wendy J I reckon I totally agree, the engineer at the movies start is Prometheus as for the reasons for the development of biological weapons that are potentially deadly to engineers as well as humans why would they do that? But then why would humans develop nuclear/biological weapons? Think on that, the engineers are as flawed as us lowly humans.

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 7:58 PMThis is my take..
Could the Engineers created life on earth just to test the bio-weapons?
The captain told the doc that this was a testing ground and the Engineers knew better than to test this stuff on their home planet. There are multiple ships there that could possibly be for different worlds that they have seeded with DNA. So I think when a group of beings show up proving that they have the technical know how it is their signal to go to that planet and unleash the bio-weapons to see how well it works.
We were just guinea pigs.
and the reason they do not come sooner is because whoever they are in battle with (maybe predator type species) is technologically advanced and to unleash such a weapon on the primitive human would be a waste.
Any thoughts?

MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 9:04 PMare you sure the engineer at the beginning created us? it looked like his dna was disolving or disappearing after he drank that stuff. It seemed like a suicide to me

MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 8:04 PMI watched the movie twice basically just to try to understand the beginning. My view is different from the posts here.
First of all, how do we know he is on Earth? Could be any world that looked like Earth.
What I do believe is that guy was an enemy of the guys in the ship (a rival tribe?). And what he drank was the bio weapon. So the guys in the ship simply wiped the population of that planet, and were going to do that to Earth.
The suicide doesn't make sense at all. The guy looks shocked when the drink starts to kill him.
Why does the ship at the beginning looks nothing like the ship in the end? The ship in the beginning is a disc, totally different.
Also, If it is a DNA match, how do humans look so different than the guys in the ship?
The bottom line is that I guess this was made vague in purpose, just to create a buzz that Ridley Scott will reveal in another movie.

MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 8:39 PMI considered this but in interviews with Ridley and Lindeloff, they said he's just like a gardener and that the opening could be any planet. I think this makes it non-unique in the engineer dying. If they meant that this engineer was unique, aka Prometheus, and stole the god's dna to seed the planet, they would have said it was earth and unique.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2013 8:46 AMIn the end, the Engineer looks at 'David' curiously, and then rips his head off... Based on this, and the *seeding* of a planet at the beginning of the movie, I believe the Engineers to be -God-. In the bible it says something about 'not recreating the image of God' or something like that. I think the Engineer was mad that we created *life* in the form of a cyborg... I also believe the *canisters* simply contained primordial ooze. They humans activated them, and it transformed the earth worms in the soil, into those snake-like creatures. They tested the primordial ooze on the guy to see how it would recreate. If it improved his health without altering him, David would have used it on Wayeland...
