Alien: Earth and Alien: Romulus sequel news

Elizabeth Shaw Quote Possibly Explains Potholes

So I saw Prometheus and I've been thinking about possible plot holes and have been looking at the site all day. One of the biggest is the role of the black goo and where the first sacrificial engineer was, on earth or an alien plant. I've read so many discussions and keep thinking of the Elizabeth Shaw quote and her dad's of something along the lines of "You choose what you want to believe." I know a lot of plot holes they intentionally left out for a possible sequel, but do you think they meant to leave some things so ambiguous and kept saying that quote throughout the movie so you can all have discussions and essentially believe what you want to believe? ORRRR am I giving the writers and director too much credit for a possibly hole-filled movie?

They've stated in MANY interviews that they were going to leave a lot of things up for debate ala Inception and the like.

I heard that quote as a choice to believe in good, whether it's out there or not. In making that choice, to believe in a better state of being, you become a better person for it. Optimism has a very powerful effect on someone's life. It's very possible they also said that to the audience. Personally I found the end quote "There's only death here..." in reference to LV-223 much more loaded. I thought this quote was answering what the black goo really is.. death. That and well everyone is dead lol. Thanks for bringing up this point.

I chose to beleive it is earth but there is no proof. The goo does diffrent things on diffrent planets to diffrent species etc...I think humans and goo eventually mutate into something that can kill off engineers...the move shows this clearly and that would explain why they had to go back and elimnate mankind to mitigate theri own danger. In the process of experimenting with it, they had a meltdown and 2000 years later, we arrive and see through the holographs what happened

The segue goes from the sacrificial Engineer sequence to Shaws discovery and I believe the transition is clear...Earth in both cases, not an alien world.

I can easily accept it is earth...Remember the point though....the goo does some great things on earth..but also can mutate into a creature that kills engineers....If I was an engineer, we would shut earth down

Earth doesn't have a planet orbiting it that looks like saturn and is so close that it blocks out the sunlight in some places... common sense, people.

@uzay132...I saw no planet blocking out sun. Hope you're not talking about the spacecraft. It could have been there but I've seen the film twice and never noticed.

it isn't prominent but during the scene where they first arrive on the moon a massive planet with rings around it dominates half the view. i'm sure you've seen this planet and so this moon, which is where the movie takes place on, cannot be earth. The hieroglyphs even point to a solar system light years away.

uzay, I'm missing the point, is someone saying Earth was the bio weapons planet? I ask because I've made that mistake...
