Surgical chamber only for a man?

I really like the surgical chamber scene and that is what really stands out as the tense moment in the movie. My only thing with the actual moment (I agree with all of the critism of the running and jumping she does afterwards) was that I was left wondering why the surgical chamber was only made for "male" patients. It was said that there were only a dozen of those made, I'm just surprised it would not be universal? It set up the tension and showed here strength to think through and overcome it but it just seemed like a device.
This is very small in the grand scheme of the big plot holes. I just haven't seen anyone comment yet on that.
