Engineer on Earth - Start of Life or Humans?

I have seen a number of folks referring to this 'betrayer'/'sacrificial' Engineer as the origin of life on Earth. However, all of the holo-models of Earth show the continents in their current configuration which would indicate that perhaps the Engineer was more the origin of Humans rather than of life. Or - perhaps they didn't show the Earth in supercontinent form because know would know that it is Earth. I'm probably missing something - but just wondering what others thought.

when was a latest painting shown - couple of thousand yrs ago? you can make the case that the star map was updated on each visit by the Engineers

If we assume they visited - then that would work. However if they, the Engineers, are a 100% DNA match to humans...

i doubt the engineers lead to a start off life. for all we know after the engineer drop into a lake some monkey could have been drinking the water and got infected and bam! humans. like i keep saying its hard for me to fathom the engineers having a million year head start of humanity yet we end up catching up to their technology.

I don't think they started all life at least not in that seen. Maybe in previous visits they kick started life but that may be a different process, otherwise all creatures would share their dna. But I think the sacrificial scene was the start of mankind as around 40,000 years ago that modern man came into existence. So that fits well with the ancient discoveries. But if it is the origin of mankind it still is the start of a life form.

Well, I've just seen the movie once. But I believe there is grass on the ground near the falls...you can see it when the camera is moving over the river. I might be wrong, but I was keeping full attention... So, for me, the answer is that the sacrifice is something between 40.000 to 65.000.000 years, because Gramienae family (grasses) is believed to evolve in the late Cretaceus (for what I know).
