Language David was studying

I was trying to find which language David was studying at the very beginning of the movie. There may have been more information mentioned, but I only remember a small bit of dialogue at the beginning. I found a couple of possibilities: From what I remember of the notation on the screen, it led me to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proto-Indo-Iranian_language Which, if some other posters are correct and this movie is based on Sumerian mythology, then that seems like a good fit. However, the languages listed in the sidebar include Swahili, which is not in the Indo-European subgroup, which suggests that the language David is studying is an even earlier root, which led me to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proto-Human_language IF either of these are correct, then it's possible that we can find out what David said to the Titan. I believe that he understood and was understandable to the Titan, because otherwise he would be unable to decipher the door functions so quickly. David is capable of duplicity, so there's a good chance he didn't say what he should have. What do you think? EDITED for Holy Run-on Sentence, Batman!

I've been curious about if there's any link between him speaking to the engineer and the phrases/language he is learning on the journey over. Just checking out the links now but I'd be interested to know what he said for sure!

This was another wasted opportunity. We are shown David learning ancient languages and yet the only time he uses this skill is to open doors, activate devices and speak to an Engineer (who obviously didn't give a crap). David's ability provided the audience, or the plot, nothing of value other than glittery moments of mystery and entry to new spaces. There was a whole wall of script and Charlie asks if he can read it... Why did David NEVER translate anything? I feel like that was an awesome moment to learn something or receive an actual clue towards what the hell that place or those rooms were...

I thought that David not translating anything was in itself revealing.

It certainly was revealing in regards to how he was programmed but still a much wasted ability that would have been useful if even used properly at least once.
