Were Fifield and Milburn Stoned?

I thought he asked him and he said it was tobacco?
Anyway you'd have to be stonned to take refuge in the room they decided to stay in for the night... I mean c'mon you could just sit out in one of the hallways where there was nothing, no they chose a room with a creepy big head in it and lots of bodies outside the doors with pods leaking black stuff... Didn't they run off in the first place to get away from giant corpses?

My interpretation of that scene was that Fifield was stoned on marijuana, and Milburn. Yes, Fifield said it was tobacco (or insinuated it was), but I took that as sarcasm.

The whole Fifield/Milburn situation makes no sense. Disregarding the fact that the so called "biologist" acted like a 12 year old girl looking at a puppy, why the hell did they never once ask for help getting out. They had a whole virtual map of the pyramid and direct contact with crew members who could act as a gps guide.
I'm also confused why Janek asked the rest of them where Milburn and Fifield were when they were all linked into the same communication system and video link.

i find it hard to believe that a geologist lost in the place he was suppose to survey, and with the probe puppy that scan the area. unless the reading device he carry is malfunction.

@CWTJones : It seems like the PUPS system collected a lot of data in a very short time but that the geologist didn't have a way of accessing that data. Instead it looks like the data was all radioed back to Prometheus and from the bridge the captain was using a hologram display system to look up the details and use voice over radio to inform them of what the PUPS were picking up.
@ OP : I took their stupid behaviour as character flaws for stereotypes.
Here's the geologist who's all cocky and acts more like he's there for armed security reasons. I was actually really surprised when he opens his mouth and has a real part to play in the scientific expedition, but the surprise was lessened when he comes out of his bag with the PUPS. It made it obvious that he was a hack who was just enjoying the toys of the trade.
As for the biologist, I took it as "crazy biologist doesn't know what's good for him". I mean, consider that he's a hopeful xenobiologist, but that on Earth that means being stuck in a career where you're more or less branded a cryptozoologist or worse (for a bio major), a mythologist, and never have any realistic prospects of seeing what you actually programmed yourself to look for. Then one day you get a lucky break and here's this actual complex alien life form that has obviously taken consideration of you. So maybe he was caught up in the moment of "my dreams are coming true". It would make sense if he felt comforted in that moment, just look at how insecure his character is (always wearing the hoodie up, reclining on several chairs instead of being attentive and sitting up in just one) and he's in the room with the even-more-insecure person on the mission. He was probably trying to show machismo.
I think the pot-smoking was classic "rules of horror": you KNOW this guy has to die know, because he either had sex or did drugs.
