Seeing it tonight and looking for the best experience. Just saw Avengers 3d and thought it would've been better in 2d.

I've seen all 3 :) If you're a fan and plan on going more than once: 1- IMAX 3D, no question there. 2- 2D to fill in the blanks from what you missed when enjoying the beauty of IMAX.

I went to BFI Imax 3D, I was in the best spot but still sometimes I had to turn my head around to catch the details. At the beginning when they stand looking at the paintings I was about to yell to those in front on me to sit down : D

Yes, 2D still has its benefits. Today watched Promethius in 2D, but I plan to see the 3D this week. 3dSmax + Supercomputer for this movie.

i've seen it twice in "imax 3d" and 1 time in "real3d" although the real3d was pretty good, i highly recommend imax. not only was the overall quality that much better, but the sound is way better in imax. you could feel the ships thrusters in your chair etc. after seeing the imax version the real3d version felt a little weaker overall- it was still good though. @tuvok i also thought shaw and holloway were two people standing up in front of me during that scene! fun times!

i should add that ive never been into 3d but Ridley Scott kept saying in interviews " youve got to see it in 3d!" etc and i fell for it, but i am VERY glad that my first viewing was in imax 3d. it really was something special in my opinion.

@jenskarisson: totally agree...never been a 3D buff, and I still HATE 3D itself, but the IMAX sound is AMAZING---i WISH it were available in IMAX 2D---now THAT would be perfect, IMHO... funny you mentioned the cave painting scene, we had the SAME experience, lol!

only downside is that a lot of scenes are quite dark and the 3d doesn't help with that

IMAX 3D is a dream. Much better sound and quality then Real3D.

@Otto in the case of prometheus i actually enjoyed the 3d itself as well though, it really did look spectacular to me. especially the opening scenes and the star map scene. but even the non special effects type scenes just looked a little bit more like real life to me. in any event it was spetacular, and i loved the movie itself so it was really a surreal and fantastic experience for me.

@jens...I definitely agree with you---I had an "out of body" experience with this film in IMAX 3d. I only wish I didn't have those STUPID glasses to deal with: 1) the pain of the tightness behind the ears, 2) the polarized lenses which kept you from leaning your head over, 3) the "smudging" on the lenses due to scratches, improper washing, etc., and 4) the DARKNESS of the film in 3D in general all were negatives that outweighed the positives, at least for me...If i could watch IMAX 3D with NO glasses, THEN I'd be in paradise!
