Green Goo Explained!!!

I've been seeing people talking about the possibility of different goo types which I like very much. Some people seem to either be neglecting the green goo that David touches or drawing a blank as to what in the hell it is. Here is my theory: The green goo is in the "water" that is raining down and flowing through the atmosphere in the structure. This goo simply acts as the media through which all of the Engineer holograms display. When David plays with the goo we see a glowing discharge similar to the images of the Engineers that will soon haul ass down the hallway. We see similar types of displays on the human vessel. Think of the rose passing through the "monitor" in Shaw's rooms. The Scottish lady comments on how the "water" is not frozen despite low temps. This chemical though harmless(?) Permiates the structure in a mist no matter how cold it gets and may also play a role in producing the artificial atmosphere. So there you have it. Just a neato trick by the Engineers. Now if we could just figure out what the hell the other voodoo goos do.

Hi there...really nice idea....and it could be co-incidence ...but i've just watched the scene you reference...and the goo david has between his fingers doesn't activate the hologram and indeed only glows because he shines his light on it....he hits a series of 'buttons' about 3...this seems to activate the hologram recording after a rumble which gets everyones attention when its followed by a scream or high pitched shrill...it also seems to be common knowledge around the forums that this is highly reminiscant of xeno type drool or saliva.. (maybe maybe not).but your right there is something on the walls helping to record these images as the 'caves' light up with that dusty type splatter before the hologram commences....nice post man :)

You think the atmosphere rain is also the green goo? The green goo is definitely our equivalent of touchscreen and buttons to the engineer technology. Concerning the engineers that was probably the thing that suprised me the most, I was expecting a lot of their technology to be more biomechanical and robotic, instead it was more gooey and with green lights and musical flutes :/

@nickell Yeah he definitely activates it with the buttons but when he spreads his fingers I think it does glow a little on its own and even makes a sound like static electricity being released. I think that the green goo is diluted in the water and is activated by whatever technology the Engineers use. Kind of like lasers and fog. Only, gooier. @ Chr1s I Was thinking its be a little more biomechanical too :-/ Though, I think that if you look closely at the jerk-Engineer's suit it appears to be part of his skin (especially around his neck). This is a very different look from the au naturale sacrificial-Engineer and might indicate an advancement in their culture or possibly just a difference between factions.

But he does sniff it and then say "Impressive". Damn that Ridley Scott. So many things in this puzzle, and I bet half of them are just to troll us.

FUNCTIONS. Just like lab rats, it's the most generic version that gets cloned, not the one that you grew an extra ear on. All the first guy had to do is drink something and die. He did not have to be adapted to any biomechanical devices that would be part of his slave drone duties.

That a pretty cool way of thinking about it. It takes the valor out of sacrifice which is really interesting. I was thinking that the "sacrifice" took place tens of thousands of years before the Engineers died on LV 223 and their suits indicated a shift in technology. Maybe they are a warrior class of clones that idolize the xenos as perfect organisms? That might explain the murals that probably wouldn't exist if xenos were simply weapons. There is some cultural significance.

It's slave sacrifice like many ancient cultures (but for scientific reasons). Look at the mural that shows the one humanoid extend an arm to what looks partially human, and art egg, with the arm looking transformed. There's a reference to God & Adam on the Cistene Chapel there. Implying that their God also takes "their" form (really an adaptation of ours) when showing himself to them... because as David says... "they are more comfortable if I look like you.". And he has two creations. The slave and the destroyer. I wonder if we will see what the Xenos looked like BEFORE they were modified by these Engineers. I really hope there is a sequel.

In looking at the close up pf the green goo on the control panel it was as if David was surprised not only that thre was goo there but what it was. His taking a sniff and saying 'impressive' is quite a statement fron a robot who seemingly has an inside track on what is going on at this facility. Seeing that he doesn't have all the answer just how much does he know? He knew enough to open the door to the Big head Room. He knew enough to take an urn back to the ship(unknown to others) And he knew enough to act first and then ask forgiveness(oops). If you think about it the three goos portrayed in the film are of different consistancy. This Green goo is given little screen time. I wonder if indeed it is a more powerful agent needed by our remaining crew members to unlock the secrets of the Domes/Engineers and Moon. Still why was so much green goo left on the panel at all? Who or what would carry so much extra, leave excess on the panel and not anywhere else i can remember. The only other green reference might be the crystal on the table top in the Big head Room.

Its just a technological advantage not a true goo. What makes you think they are drones? huh. They are the Engineers there is no one else only in Shaws' philosophical thinking. Quit assuming everything they are not going to show your imaginary expectations. Reality check they are the creators of the Xeno dont mean to burst the theoretical bubble.

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

For David, of all charactors to say something is 'impressive' is quite a bold statement. You would think his inquisative mind would want to know more. I think there is a thread on this that might give me a greater perspective..
