MAybe is not the masterpiece we did hope but the success is surely big , i think a sequel is pretty sure right now 74% of positive reviews of about 230 critics 74% of positive reviews of about 100000 people and the box office .. 150.000.000 dollars already (2 weeks in some countries in europe , 1 week in Usa , many countries still out ) ...i think it should reach quite easily the 250 millions and try to go as much as closer for the 300

Damn, the user reviews went down. It was at 87% the other day. I know Alien is a classic with 97% but it's 33 years old and is known as a classic, I wonder what the actual critics reviews were back in 79 as it wasn't known to be a classic yet.

It needs to pass 400 million worldwide to be considered a success.

Alien 1979 had a budget of 11Mil$, and did at the boxoffice 104Mill$. Prometheus costs around 150Mill€ and it may end at around 200Mill$. BOX OFFICE ALIEN MOVIES.

Depends on what you measure. Money wise it's bound to be successful. If you mean will it become an all time classics then probably not

@spacyfreak ....its obvious that will not end around 200 ...is already after 150 in less than a week and some markets still to explore !!! @Draleequation ...we are talking of an R movie ... to surpass the 400-500 you need to have psycho teens that go to watch it 10 times , Prometheus did open at 10th place ALL TIME for R rating movies ! My prediction ? 110 Domestic USA + 160 Worldwide = 270+ Worldwide

Yo maybe you are right and we were so wrong. hehe. Yes between 200 and 300Mill $ i agree all in all - what is a very good outcome for an ALIEN movie, compared to the other parts of the franchise. But Prometheus had a much higher budget then ALL the other parts... Allways the "invest" has to be compared to the "return of invest".

@Frantz A film's success is not measured by its gross relative to its rating, it is measured by the amount earned relative to production and marketing costs. The beautiful thing about money is that it does not care about anything, to offset the production and massive marketing costs the film needs to earn at least 400 million worldwide to be considered a success by industry standards. If it fails to do this, it may not turn a profit even with licensing deals and the bluray/dvd release. What you fail to take into account is that, although it opened 10th for all time rated R movies, some of those big opening films had production budgets below 20 million dollars. All those trailers, tv spots, commercial air time, billboards, viral websites, bus banners, the Ted Talk, The David Short, and even train station in France that they made up to look like the poster, are not going to pay for themselves. Prometheus' marketing campaign was amazing, but that also probably means it was extremely expensive.

Well, alien was not that big at the Box office either. It took time for many of the audience to like it. i watched it when i was 9 on video tape and was stunned by the egg face hugger scene and the chestburster scene. I liked Aliens more because it action more action (especially military). But as an adult, i must say i like ALIEN more, and also alien 3 wasnt that bad. It took time to grow. I personally was not 100% satisfied with prometheus, but i like it much and want to watch it again in the cinema. And definetly buy the dvd later.
