'Dark City' is one of my favorite sci-fi movies and although I know what you mean, spacyfreak, I never thought about the similarities being close enough to compare. I guess because the ideas behind 'Dark City' and 'Prometheus' seem to be so different.
ShinobiX9X, the one scene in the Director's Cut of 'Dark City' that was the most important to me was a scene with Mr. Hand and Emma by the dock. Their dialogue was extended:
Mr. Hand: "Perhaps. But imagine a life alien to yours in which your memories were not your own but those shared by every other of your kind. Imagine the torment of such an existence no experiences to call your own."
Emma: "If it was all you knew maybe it would be a comfort."
Mr. Hand: "But if you were to discover something different...Something...better."
And they removed the narration in the beginning which gives away some of the plot, leaving you to wonder what's going on (somewhat like 'Blade Runner').

@spaceyfreak...you're reaching a bit here. The Engineers are more modeled after the classical depictions of humans, ala` Michaelangelo's David. Mr.Book, the "stranger" on the cover, and Mr. Hand, another of the strangers, are NOT modeled after this. In fact, their entire physical body is not their true form and does not belie any sort of physical nature, whereas the Engineer's are highly developed physically.
Besides, Dark City contains numerous references to Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" and its autonomous populous, whereas PROMETHEUS does not.
Also, the set locales and overall visuals are two distinct things as well, one being Neo-Noir whereas the other is space and all its wonder.
