1972 vs. 1979 Cannon. Which do you like better and why?

Yes, the original script of Alien that falls more in line with Prometheus or the revised 1979 script?

@Engineering - I don't disagree with you at all lol. I was simply referencing what ideas were there in writing which the script and art design teams picked up on during PROMETHEUS. And absolutely we can't forget what happens in the other movies lol I'd pitch a fit as well because I rather like the franchise period. As I've elsewhere before it's my favorite series right behind Star Wars lol. I guess I'm just qualifying my statement under what I would consider canon. I just think it was neat to bring what O'Bannon originally wrote and brought it to the screen for us to enjoy. Made it a neat nod to the guy that gave us the ALIEN universe lol.

you can even go a tad back to '68 and re-watch 2001.

That's what I thought you were talking about but your use of the word "canon" had me confused as to what you were talking about. The original script isn't Alien "canon" since it was never used.
The fact is that the stuff in the original script wasn't used so Scott using ideas which weren't used in Alien in Prometheus doesn't really mess with the Alien canon. It doesn't change anything or contradict what came before.
To answer your question though, I think the elements used in both films are wonderful whether they were Alien cannon, unused ideas taken from the original script or brand new ideas.

He seems to be basing the movie in the Alien universe, but using some of the ideas from the Star Beast Script and also some from Mountains of Madness.
Thats how the movie looks to me....

@BigDave...Yes, not really "canon" as it is ideas.
I like Prometheus better so I obviously the ideas used in Prometheus better.

@ John O - thanks for the inadvertant bump sir. And when I wrote my original treaties I should've stated that my use of the word "canon" was based solely on the original design, script and treatment of ALIEN before Scott came on board. Which, when I started reading the script and found all the connections to what PROMETHEUS showed us I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the fact that some forgotten elements from the original concepts were reintroduced and realized on the screen. To me it was all just pure interest at first, but the more people made comments about the oddity of some things I felt like sharing that the ideas weren't "pulled out of his rear" so to speak.
@ Engineering - Since O'Bannon created the ALIEN and it's concept and wrote the screenplays for the final film (not Scott) I would consider the ALIEN universe his and therefore his orignal ideas would be canon. In other words, you own it, you wrote it, your stuff is the final word so to speak. Similar to no matter what happens in the Star Wars EU (comics, games, books what-have-you) George Lucas has the final say on all story related concepts regardless and if he changes something for himself (ie the Mandalorians in the Close Wars) all other related material must conform or it's branded "non-canon."
Anyway, good reads all!

@JasperJotun...So we can just forget everything that happened in the Alien sequels because Alien is O'Bannon's and what he said before he died goes? Don't think so. And George Lucas has retained complete control of Star Wars from the beginning. O'Bannon barely got to hang around for the first film being made and was gone rather quickly with no involvment in the series whatsoever after that. What is IN the films is "canon" imo.
Don't get me wrong, I love O'Bannon but original script ideas are not "canon" and if they are you better forget everything you know about films you've watch and go back and read the first drafts.
