MemberOvomorphJun-14-2012 7:41 PMWhen the Engineers were our mentors / makers on Earth they left maps for us as an 'invitation'. But the maps led to an outpost on a moon - not to thier home planet. I assume that when they were leaving the maps they were on good terms with us and the relationship changed at a later time.
So why did the maps lead to that moon? Did the Engineers really want us to go there? They could have brought us there any time they wanted.
Or did somone else leave us the maps (and also knowledge) and that is why we were to be destroyed - so we could not follow the Engineers home?
Perhaps our task is to unwittingly destroy the Engineers and that moon provides us with the weapon to do it?
That somone would be a Prometheus.
Anyone have any other thoughts on why the maps led to that moon?

MemberOvomorphJun-14-2012 7:56 PMI had wondered exactly the same thing for a while, but other threads point out that the "map" was only to a star system, not a specific planet or moon. The moon they found may have been the most likely location to go, but based on criteria that we came up with ... not not necessarily the correct criteria to find the destination that they intended. (It it was in fact an invitation at all.)
That's my take on it anyway.

MemberOvomorphJun-14-2012 8:58 PMNotice that Prometheus explorers were not carful enought and, because of that, they start to get infected and die. In addition, that was not the only "Engineers" ship on the planet, and Prometheus crue exploration was, in fact, very superficial. Think about it, they haven't explored many of the other areas of that world and everything rushes up when they discovered that the Engineer is going to destroy Earth. Conclusion, this definetely calls for one or two more sequels.

MemberOvomorphJun-14-2012 9:08 PMPlease excuse any misspelling. I also think that whoever left the map on Earth might be giving us clues to get to a final destination. Maybe LV 223 was just the first stop of the quest, and Shaw & David will need to work hard to demonstrate that they are worth the answers they are looking for.

This line of thinking means our crew has been auditioning for the next step in Meeting the Creators?
Then at some point Shaw realizes this and becomes even more forceful to seek out from where the Engineer's came.
That is a lot to take in.
As I recall there was thread to the effect that Weyland has known of the Engineer/xenos. This sort of led to this Prometheus adventure.
It is hard to think both lines of thought are right.
But which one?
Or is there even another reason for this particular trip to this particular moon?
