Modest Points on Prometheus (SPOILERS)

After seeing the movie this past weekend, I must say that I was more than underwhelmed. I would have never to expected there to be such gaping plot holes. I did enjoy the effort that was put into the set design and the effects. At any rate, there are a few things I hadn’t seen mentioned yet that I was hoping to get some feedback on: Engineer/SJ Appearance: I, like others, was expecting to see some kind of elephantine being in relation to the original SJ from the ‘Alien’ movie which I had always imagined had something to do with the genealogical evolution of the xenomorphs (we know that they take on certain characteristics of their hosts). Instead, we learn that these guys actually have spacesuits with elephantine features (actually closer to a tapir I think) and that they look a lot like us. Of course, we learn that we share the same DNA with them thus the similar appearances. But, what I am wondering is that its interesting how much the Engineers appearance reminded me of the main character from the 1995 movie ‘Powder’. For anyone has seen this movie, you’ll remember that the guy, who was called Powder, was the product of a pregnant woman who was on her way to the hospital to give birth but finds herself being struck by lightning while standing a puddle of water on sidewalk during a thunderstorm. This event in turn was believed to accelerate the evolution of her child, who turned out to be Powder who was telekinetic, telepathic, extremely sensitive to the emotions of others and possessed an advanced intellect. In short, I just thought that it was ironic that the Engineer subtly resembled Powder with his skin color and hairless body. Fifield’s Mutation: After seeing the movie, it is apparent that the black goo affects different hosts in different ways. I think one of the most striking mutations we see is Fifield’s which may be attributed to the fact that he is the character we see alive the longest after having been infected. Nonetheless, I think that one of the reasons that he turns into an aggressive mutant skullbasher is perhaps the mix of the black goo combined with the recent effects of the Mary Jo Wanna that we know he was taking tokes off of via his integrated helmet bong. At any rate, I believe when that THC started tangling with that black goo it just drove Fifield into a killing frenzy. Although Holloway was not exposed to the same amount of black goo as Fifield and was around as long, he didn’t appear to be growing hostile. As always, these are just my thoughts on the matter. “Cuddles” Physiology: Ok, we all now know that “Cuddles” is the mutant squid baby that is conceived as a result of Holloway and Shaw’s copulation celebration. Still, if Shaw was sterile then does that suggest that her ovaries don’t produce eggs? Working against this premise, then that leaves me to believe that cuddles is in actuality a mutated sperm cell or cells as there would have been nothing within Shaw for Holloway’s infected sperm cells to combine with. In other words, “Cuddles” looks like a large sperm cell with multiple tails that via the black goo was animated. For me, this helps to explain “Cuddles” physiology and even more so why the creature seemed to have an instinctual need to combine its genetic material with another host to complete the conception process. Well, that’s more than enough from me. As I mentioned earlier, I’m very interested in hearing feedback on any of these points.
