MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 11:32 AMI disagree with Forever only on the aspect that David act against Charlie was malevolent. I do agree he did use him as a lab rat, but throughout the film his distain for his creators became more & more evident. He is intent was if he lives or dies so what now it my turn to play God.

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 11:30 AMI think he "poisoned" Charlie just to see what would happen. My impression of David throughout the movie is that he exists simply to help Weyland. I think he poisoned Charlie to see what effect the black liquid would have on a person and to see if it could be used to help Weyland. he didn't know what would happen and Charlie being killed was an unfortunate side effect. No hidden agenda, no malicious intent. David is a robot and does what he is programmed to do, period.

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 11:25 AMI think he needs to confirmed his order frm weyland, plus charlie said some pretty offensive comments about him over the pool table. But on the other hand he is not programmed to hurt a human (like bishop claimed),
In the end, he is jst a synthetic, he is trying to proof to weyland so tht weyland can pop out of scene n go meet his maker, becos after all weyland told him to "try harder".

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 11:12 AMPerhaps it was Weyland who wanted David to give Holloway the goo as a test subject for his search for the eternal fountain of youth? David was just doing what he was told.

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 11:17 AMI broadly agree with Forever War - there is a lot of the usual fantasy speculation, but in terms of context, within the film, I see:
a] He either made a simple interpretation that this action is what Charlie would have been prepared to accept, based on Charlie's rash declaration.
[This, perhaps, combined with a certain little, "personal", malice].
or
b] He used Charlie's rash declaration as a basis on which to pursue an agenda which was hidden, to which it so happened that rash declaration was very well suited - and I think that agenda, if it exists, remains, (in terms of being made explicit in the Story), unclear.
[This also, perhaps, combined with a certain little, "personal", malice].
The specific terms of that agenda, if it exists, [which I, personally, think would be likely], is what you can expect plenty of fan-fiction opining on.

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 11:02 AMHe gave him what he perceived Charlie wanted...lot of speculation out there as to malevolent intent, but I don't think so.

?...
"He exists simply to help Weyland//no hidden agenda"?
Weyland's presence on board is not public?
The fact that David is assisting Weyland, [who is not publicly known to be on board], is also not publicly known?...
That is a, "hidden agenda"?

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 11:37 AMThere is only one answer...he was following orders. This is what Robots are designed to do, what they are programmed to. He was programmed by The Weyland Corp. To Serve Peter Weyland and all his intended ambitions and actions and desires. He was told to "try harder". He had to conduct the experiment. The outcome {Holloways Murder/Death} was irrelevant and circumstantial, especially after Holloways answer, although I do not think David8 would have decided all of the sudden not to infect him, but rather just to have done it another way, or just asked another question until he got the answer he needed to conduct the experiment.

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 1:43 PM....yes david is a robot remember...he does not think like we do....conscience is simply not a factor.... he does what he is programmed to do....period!!!....but it's easy to forget this when you watch the movie...

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 4:23 PMDavid also offered to get Tea for Theron's character right before he gave it to Charlie. I think it was just a matter of convenience that he gave it to charlie, it could have been given to anyone, Weylan had to know what the substance did.

MemberOvomorphJun-20-2012 10:34 AMYes david has no emotions but he understands them so he essentially like a psycopath and yes he was always following orders...David viral
