I enjoyed the film more the 2nd time.
Visually beautiful. I like the score very much. The David performance seems even better. His "three laws" line at the pool table was great. David is actually the scariest thing in the film.
I liked the final scene with Shaw the beliver flying away on her quest to find the great truth, accompanied by the ultimate non beliver. The created with her species creation. Let's hope the film will be given a sequel.
For all the plot commentary issues SRS made some bold decisions to go the way he did. Hollywood wants bankable pablum. This film was far from that. It was quite risky.
Between first and 2nd viewings I saw an HBO small feature on the film. SRS said something like " I wanted everything to be believable".
That is still where I have some problems. Everything has been listed elsewhere but I will mention two as examples.
Would it not have been easier to show the ship launching a few satalites at the point of orbital insertion to imply the study of the planet? this could have been done with no extra time in that pretty orbital insertion sequence. Intead we get a sequence that makes the discovery of the ruins unbelievable. Why?
The Holloway performance just gets more unbelievable.
Remove your helmet.
Sleep with your girlfriend.
Discover you are horribly infected.
Do not tell your girlfriend.
Suit up and go back where other people might be infected as they remove thier helmets.
Again tell no one. Really?
He cetrtainly does not know David infected him. He would have to assume he was infected in the ruins.
My big question is how does SRS miss things like this?
Even though we all complain about these nits Prometheus is the best of recent SciFi. I give a lot of credit to SRS for the risks taken. It would have been a lot simpler to go with a straight Prequel.
What do others think after additional viewings?
