Charles Bishop Weyland was the CEO in AVP. Peter Weyland was the CEO in Prometheus. I think the ages work out that Peter could be Charles' son. I think the Bishop android was so named out of respect for the former founder of the company. Just something I thought about. What does everyone think?

MemberOvomorphJun-19-2012 7:41 PMI agree. AVP wasn't too bad. I think the Predator's are interesting characters. I've read those comic cross overs. They're good. I wish all the movies could tie together. The Predator's could have fought the Aliens for sport as depicted in the trophy case, but as soon as they brought the battle to Earth during our time period, it became ridiculous. More about money than advancing the story line. For the story to work, it would have had to take place on another planet. With no time given. Either past, present or future. As we can see from Prometheus, the Aliens as we know them have been around for awhile. I was just thinking that you have Charles Bishop Weyland and the Bishop android in Aliens. The folks who made AVP made it seem like the android was modeled after Weyland from AVP.

AdminPraetorianJun-19-2012 7:11 PMRidley made Promethus to bury the AVP movies. He said about AVP, and I quote: "It was all shit"
It's pretty simple really, you cannot take any information given in the AVP movies as truth. It isn't considered canon because the Aliens and Predators are not in the same universe. The Charles Bishop Weyland in AVP is not in the Alien universe. He isn't Weyland's father or Vickers grandfather.
Alien and Predator are two separate franchises that were mashed together in the sole purpose to make money. The first crossover stories were done in the late 80s. Predator 2 was made in the early 90s. The skull in the cabinet was a wink and a nod to the crossovers and it was just a flash, a quick glimpse as the camera panned. It was, for all intents and purposes, an easter egg (the man who designed the trophy case later admited he hadn't realised how similar his skull looked to the one in alien) Some people didn't even see it until yeeeeaaars later.
Good examples of crossovers are:
1-The non-canon comic book series written by Frank Miller called "RoboCop versus The Terminator" which suggests that the creation of Skynet and the Terminators was made possible due to the technology used to create RoboCop.
2-The non-canon comic book series; "Superman vs. the Terminator: Death to the Future" where we find Skynet forming a cross-temporal alliance with Superman's foe the Cyborg, dispatching various Terminators into the past in an attempt to eliminate Superman, Supergirl and Superboy.
3-The non-canon comic book series; "Superman vs Aliens": Story: In the far corners of space, Earth's yellow sun is a distant memory to Superman. Without its nurturing glow, his powers are fading fast. Will they hold out long enough for him to save the domed city of Argo from an infestation of Aliens, or is The Man of Steel doomed to die amongst what may be the ruins of his long-lost Krypton?

That said, I quite liked AVP. (AVP2 was a disgrace though)

AdminPraetorianJun-19-2012 11:19 PMWell, even in AVP you see Weyland doing the Bishop knife trick, it is awesome but merely a crossover. The Comic books were great too.

AdminPraetorianJun-19-2012 7:49 PM@BigMike; Did ya read my whole posts? I mentioned that the man who designed the trophy case later admited he hadn't realised how similar his skull looked to the one in Alien. So it isn't even an Alien skull, they don't have skulls or bones, they have an exoskeleton, not endoskeleton.
As for Bishop and AVP, I read something to the effect that Weyland wasn't even the same Weyland, and the list goes on. It's a crossover, it's fun but not to be taken seriously.

MemberOvomorphJun-19-2012 8:16 PMYes. I read the whole post. I did not know that it was designed as a fluke. I always thought is was placed in there by the production company as a joke or to see what everyone's response would be. After word circulated, I remember everyone couldn't wait to see that film made some day. It sure does look like an Alien head. Same design from Aliens. Actually, I think an exoskeleton can last forever because of their durability. They have bug collections in natural history museums that are very old and they look like they just died so if it was, hypothetically an alien head, it could still survive intact as a trophy for the Predator's collection.
Now that you mention it, I do remember reading something where it was a coincidence that the characters had the same name. I'm wondering if they wanted to initially try and tie the films together, but then afterwards said forget it. Not gonna work. So much has been wriiten and so many interviews done over the years, it's hard to remember who said what. If you throw the comics into the mix, it gets even more confusing. Really, the storyline of the Predators hunting the Aliens for sport is just a fun deviation. I think the original plot with the folks on the Nostromo and James Cameron's queen idea is great and I hope Ridley makes a Prometheus sequel to kind of answer a couple things while going off on another story to expand the Alien universe. Prometheus could be a great start to even bigger and better things.

You’re right Mike, age-wise it works but obviously all the die hard fans would say they aren’t related. I thought the first AVP was pretty good (regardless of what Ridley thought) and deserved to be included in the canon, but certainly not the second film. Personally I’d like to think they were related some how.

Of course not, that’s why it’s called Science Fiction. But I wouldn’t be surprised in the next few years if we see a movie combo pack for sale that has the AVP movies along with Prometheus and the other Alien movies. Non-canon? Not according to the movie studio execs.
