A quick theory. The Engineers are looked upon by the humans as our creators and gods. The twist? The Aliens are looked upon by the Engineers as their gods. They worship them. Their very existence is dedicated to propagating the advancement of the Alien. There are examples over and over again in human history where nature and/or animals/creatures have been worshipped as gods. Throughout the mythos of Alien, the Xenomorph are looked upon as the perfect organism i.e. pinnacle of existence, god. The one drawback to the Alien is that they require a host for their embryo. The Engineers are breed/cloned as vessels for the Aliens. Hence, the reason no obvious evolutionary advancement has occurred over the millions if not billions of years between the opening scene and where our current story has been taken to. The Engineers terraform planets. Part of the terraforming process is seeding them with their DNA to mass create compatible Alien vessels. The purpose is for the expansion of the Alien hive to expand throughout the universe. Why, 2000 years ago, were the Engineers getting ready to head to Earth? Because it was time. The earths compatible species had almost gotten to the relative advanced point of evolution to reach out to the stars and potentially become a threat. This also explains why the Engineers visited throughout the millennia to check on their advancement. The Engineers were being worshiped but what they were trying to do was herald the coming of the real gods and where those gods came from. The Aliens continued to do what they do and when an accident occurred at the distribution center for the advancement of their species, the Aliens took advantage of the situation and used the Engineers as their vessels again. A lot more theories mulling around in my cranium but thats all I will put out there for now. What do you think?

i fully agree with your idea on this...but i have a question...how do you think that the creature at the end.. that is so reconizable to people who have followed ridley ..that the creature spreads itself enough for it to get out of control and kill off the engineers home planet?....i am seeing somewhat of a resemblance to the halo series "flood" as the forerunners trying to keep the flood contained ...maybe thats what lvl 223 is for ....

And another ship visited Hawaii around 680 CE (AD) and nothing apocalyptic happened. Why do you assume that they worship the Xenomorph? Because it's up on the wall? Symbols of fear and control also go on walls. The threat of unleashing the Xenomorph may well be what keeps these workers obedient.

obviously they worship the aliens as seen in the movie as there is a wall with the outline of the future alien we all know of....maybe its the highest form of what they believe in..because obviously only that form comes from when a engineer is infected and the offspring is one of those oval headed aliens....in order to create millions of those aliens they must kill and hatch from millions of their hosts.."the engineers" i think the planet shaw is going to is goin to be a gravemind thats full of these things and somehow they will get loose

Could the Engineers be living in a symbiotic relationship with the Aliens? Yin and Yang? Is there a more intelligent breed of Alien/Xenomorph that created the Engineers and us? What if that breed favored us over the Engineers? And decided to get rid of the Engineers. Maybe that is what they are running from in the movie. And maybe that is why they wanted to exterminate us. One of the things that struck me was that the Engineers didn't carry any weapons in the movie. Almost as if they didn't mind being infected. Ok, these are just ideas and may make no sense, but I have fun working out (im)plausible theories.

Interesting theory but it has been stated by Ridley and now Damon Lindelof that the "2000" year mention could be a direct relation to Jesus.

OH MY GOD!...theres even more holes in this than there is in the movie.... theres ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to suggest that the engineers worship the xenos....you've managed to overlook a lot of main plot points and whatever fluent narrative was there....and come up with a made up theory to suit yourself. if the engineers worship the xenos why are they so scared of them or whatever variant it is they're running from?...surely they would cow tow and take their medicine in a sacrilegious fashion....why would the engineer at the end fight so hard to get away if he understands the life cycle and evolution of such a revered and god like being?. No.... engineers simply lost control of their 'Pet' it got out and tore them apart. and why would they use the face huggers/xenos to kill mankind and create billions of xenos when they can't even control a few...what then?...create some other creature to kill the xenos?..because its time?...what an exercise in futility.

Almost as if they didn't mind being infected.[/u] Slave masters generally don't arm their slaves even for dangerous work. They can always clone another big grey worker who looks just like him. I think if you watch how Fifield behaves, you'll see where Xenos come from, and if you notice the similarities between the Space jockeys biomechanical suits, and the torso of a Xeno, you'll get what I'm saying. I think the Grey dudes are cloned from altered humans abducted from Earth. Bred and tampered with to be strong, and kept in line with fear and crude brainwashing (temples featuring the big giant head, and also the image of what will punish them, esp if one of them is turned into it, to punish the other revolting slaves.)

Notice the mural on the ceiling... it doesn't look like a Xeno creating a humanoid, it looks like a humanoid creating a Xeno FROM another humanoid.

Lets do some simple math. 2089-2000=89. So, according to you, we had reached a relative advanced point of evolution to reach out to the stars in roughly 89 a.d. Yeah...

What if the Engineers actually engineered the xenos as a form of weaponry? The thought that they were worshipped is really good too. This literally just popped into my head.
