Hi Guys, Fan Girl here! I googled 'Prometheus cult movie' and found John Kenneth Muir's review. Not sure if this one has been listed yet or not but just as the movie rewards viewers with repeated viewings, so does repeat reading of this review! Check it out! http://reflectionsonfilmandtelevision.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/cult-movie-review-prometheus-2012.html

Based on the fact that me and my sci-fi nerd (think Big Bang Theory) friends keep talking about it, I think it is safe to say that Prometheus is well on the way to achieving cult status. On a related note we all liked "Green Lantern" and "The Avengers" but I don't remember anyone talking about these movies more than a day after viewing them.

Thanks Freeze, I'm home! Since watching Serenity, I've been waiting for a Sci-Fi movie to move me half as much as any of the classics have (read - BLADE RUNNER - my favourite movie of all time!). And I really do understand the backlash this movie has gotten from some folks...I too, understand the initial dissapointment on first watching the movie after all the hype and trailers. The trailers really sold this movie as something else...the 'Alien', harsh, chordant string soundtrack of the trailer alone led people to believe that this was going to be an 18++ horror extravaganza...and it wasn't! From the initial cheers when the curtain first went up...to the utter silence, confusion and endless debating on the tube (London Underground) by movie go-ers on the way home, you could tell that Ridley and Co had delivered the movie they wanted to release, and didn't play up to the fancies of anyone else. But to me, now...after a good few weeks of re-visiting fan sites and digesting the movie and its themes, I think that's the whole point. Ridley et al have released a cult film for this generation. Prometheus is getting the same backlash and ridcule that Blade Runner first got on its inital release...and the reason why is because it turned away from the shoot-em-up, action, summer blockbuster mould to deliver something completely different. And for that, I'm glad! Like many other people have said: "how many movies do you still continue to think and debate about, heck, even remember, save for a couple of good shots, after the curtain has come up"? Next to none! I've never seen Lawrence of Arabia...but I googled and Wikied after watching this. Of course this is fiction, so I didn't expect to get 'true' answers about Man and Our Existence after watching this movie, but it definately made me think...and you could go so far as to so (blasphemesley so, that it makes you think more than the Bible teachings you may have had as a child), just who we are, where did we come from as a species, where are we going? And that's why I believe a certain segment of society have connected to this movie so much. Because even though it's cool and fashionable to denounce God and Creation in this day and age, and say...."I'm an atheist...I have no religion...no beliefs"...some people do privately think about these things, so I do think the movie connected with some on that level. Also on many other levels too. Hate or TROLL away...I don't care...I'm throwing my views into the mix (especially as I've just recently re-established my commentary powers on this site, lol!). So, in conclusion, I'm quite sure when I say that this is ALREADY a cult movie. It already has people constantly going back for more - whether to review what they missed, or to add to what they already thought, it doesn't matter. It's got a whole swad of people talking and interacting - and essentially, that is what good art is all about. Third viewing - here we go again (soon!) Peace :) P.S. It goes without saying that I found John K Muir's viewing faultless...in that everything he mentions in it, I couldn't disspute...nor did I pick up upon watching this for the first time myself.

just found this review after viewing this site for over a year, it's an incredible piece and so much thought has gone into it. like KIZZYQB I went to the midnight showing and walked out of the cinema thinking ??????????? it's only after repeated viewings, watching other material that the author has quoted and reading alternate views that other people have posted, That the film truly comes into its own and makes you wonder about all the subjects it addresses, just the other night ( August 2013 ) I was walking home from work at around 12.30 pm on my own looking at the stars and was still pondering all the questions and themes that Prometheus has set and for a film to do that over a year since its release is quite incredible
