Sigourney Weaver says that James Cameron will film three ‘Avatar’ sequels back-to-back-to-back Director James Cameron promised in a recent interview that he will dedicate the rest of his career to the Avatar franchise, and he meant it. Actress Sigourney Weaver let it slip in an interview that the Titanic director plans to film three additional Avatar films all at once. While promoting the USA mini-series Political Animals, Weaver told Showbiz411 that Cameron will make Avatar 2, 3 and 4 simultaneously, although she admitted that she has no idea how long this will take or how Cameron plans to do it. “I just show up,” she told the site. According to Entertainment Weekly, Weaver, who first worked with Cameron in 1986’s Aliens, said that she will start working on the films after she finishes her run in Christopher Durang’s production of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which starts on Nov. 12. She also has to finish her work on Political Animals, which could be renewed for a second season. Weaver’s comments come after Cameron told The New York Times, “I’m in the Avatar business. Period. That’s it.” He added, “...That all sounds I suppose a little bit restricted, but the point is I think within the Avatar landscape I can say everything I need to say that I think needs to be said, in terms of the state of the world and what I think we need to be doing about it. And doing it in an entertaining way. And anything I can’t say in that area, I want to say through documentaries, which I’m continuing." The original Avatar was released in 2009 and became the highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing Cameron’s Titanic. It won three Oscars and was nominated for Best Picture. What more is there to show? Really? I enjoyed the movie, but I didn't seem much wiggle room for sequel/prequels.

Who knows, apparently James Cameron is LITERALLY committing the entire rest of his career on Avatar 2,3,4. I don't know why. I assume because they each take years to make he will have to? I don't know. Seems a bit to the extreme but thats James Cameron alright!

Seems like a good move, one that Peter Jackson started when he made Lord of The Rings. Great idea to keep a cast and crew together, it avoids breaking up that magic. However, I don't see how 3 more Avatar movies could be viable, the first one was ok I guess but 3 more, really?? To each his own I guess.

Is it art or just random shapes filling time?

Hmm, i found Avatar boring most of the time. Some kind of cowboys vs. indians vs. space in some "disney-style".

I saw the scene leaked of avatar where he's being chased by the black panther off a waterfall months before the movie came out, and then after seeing the movie thinking the leaked scene would have been better as a stand alone short, than with all the cheesy crap that came both before and after in the movie. If it had just been some f'd-up nature film on an alien planet, I would have loved it, and it would not have been weighed down by all the politics of "unobtainium" and all the slow 'titanicesque' love story garbage. I agree with Abordoli, if you are stretching a premise just to fill a 2 hour movie, how are you going to fill 8 hours of the same thing?

As for Miss Weaver... I wonder... One Avatar was more than enough to get all those New-Agers going. sigh... cinema is dying a painful death

Not impressed with Avatar. Hate to say it. Cameron lost it around the time he did True Lies. That was a great film, but everything after has been overblown big budget crap! He was a better film maker when he had a limited budget to work with! And what's with this Titanic/underwater fascination he has? Crazy... James Cameron used to be my second favorite director. These days, I think Alex Proyas and Guillermo Del Toro are better directors...

Yes, Sir! There are several of nice directors nowadays, wich are in my eyes.. - Guillermo Del Toro - David Lynch (though mostly "way TOO crazy", but i love it) Most of all, i cant await a Science-Fiction Movie by CHRIS CUNNINGHAM. This is the "next big man" in movie business, a real genius and outstanding visionary who CAN deliver.

It may just be an emotional appeal for me to see my children with their own sequence of be-loved movie fare to mature with like I had with Star Wars and I ndiana Jones but personally I barely made it through the first one...not looking forward at all too taking my children to 3-4 more of them !
