I think the idea (from reading a LOT of commentary on the film; especially from one man right [url=http://cavalorn.livejournal.com/584135.html]HERE[/url]) of the mural is that it's meant to represent the engineer (the lifegiver, who creates life unselfishly through sacrifice) in comparison with the 'Destroyer' (to use Cavalron's terminology) which is purely selfish life. The Destroyer does not create, it only consumes, and feels nothing. I think that's the main jist!
