Beacon and laser beam protecting arranged eggs, even after a crash....suggests Engineers are still alive, perhaps in hyper sleep?
A non queen chest burster must be a King, and they can self reproduce by turning select hosts into eggs and keep others hanging on as hosts, until a queen is born, for mass production of eggs.
Drones are only born once a queen is formed, as evidenced in Aliens.
I believe what we saw were the parasite version of the xenomorphs, due to engineer tinkering with their DNA.
Xenomorphs and Engineers coexisted. However engineers traveled away from their planet to experiment with the xenomorph dna.
Engineers could not have wanted revenge on humans, since, in the original Alien movie, their beacon was warning humans NOT to land.
There must be a grand king, since in prometheus there was lots of subtle talk about a king vs a queen.
Thoughts?
Happy to come aboard!

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 3:14 PMI don't see how or why it would necessarily suggest anyone is still alive - those systems could be autonomous, running automatically on some practically indefinite power source.
What is a, "King", and why, "must", it be?
Perhaps. And perhaps not.
"Parasite version"?..
Couldn't they? What makes you think the beacon in Alien was intended for humans?
What is a, "Grand King", and why, "must", there be one?
Can you explain?

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 3:53 PMallinamberclad is on the right track... if you think about the motivation to establish a Emergency Warning Beacon, there might have been Engineers in the near by space, also the beacon was not in any known language that could have been translated easily by the humans (although we do know that after Mother and also Earth-side computers ran the message through their filters it was in fact a warning and not a distress message) and that meant possible hazardous materials or conditions involved. This prompted the humans to investigate using expendable resources...

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 4:14 PMHi Frontier:
"King" alien is a concept from the comics [aka fan made stories], not to be taken seriously by the movie standard.
The "Queen" is a James Cameron take on the Alien propagation process, but not really what was intended with the original ALIEN movie. It also depicted the "xenomorphs" to be bug-like wich is also a non Original Alien concept.
As to the rest of the problematique, Patch and allinamberclad answered neetly.
Kudos

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 4:50 PMallinamberclad - i did think they could run on auto pilot but as I mentioned, the eggs were in place, in tact. If they were made before the crash wouldn't they be all over the place?
I mention king alien because of the dialogue in Prometheus. Seemed to hint at something. And I'm not really one to reach.
True that the beacon could not have been intended for humans.
"parasite version" only because , from what I got in Prometheus, DNA was played with. And, there was talk about king vs queen dom. :)

MemberOvomorphJul-08-2012 7:36 PMhave to agree with allinamberclad and patch about the warning being intended for engineers... especially in light of lv233 being "right next door"
personally i feel the king comments in prometheus pertained more to characters therein... if you follow the established Fox lore (which would include games, guys...) a "drone" or "warrior" can turn into a "queen" when a new hive is to be started or when the existing queen dies. like actual real-life amphibians sometime change gender naturally...
... of course one might have to suspend one's disbelief a tad.
