not alive. plus, pre-production artwork suggests they should be those ELEPHANT PEOPLE we see running through the green-dust holo-corridors. Not a alien-skin-infected Engineer. Gah!

there are for sarco in that room, 3 with a hole, 1 survived. + there is a bunch of dead engineers stacked somewhere (in the movie) There would be more, but they show those 4 in that old recording. As they show several in another part of the movie running into the big head room. Probably different recordings of different events. I'd like to know if there were also engineers in the other temples. had same problem? no survivors? etc

Look at the image you posted, The hyper-sleep chambers at the top, bottom and right of the picture all have holes roughly where the Engineers chest would be, the chamber on the left does not. There is your answer.

The big question is, why? and what happened?

We may not like their reasoning of Why and what happened if lindelof is going to write the script.

imho, I think it makes perfect sense, if they are going to "Make Things Right" for all those that complained and wanted more "Explanation and Tie In" He should be the person that gets first licks! He is the person aside from Ridley that has had to live through the most scrutiny in all of this so it would only be fair to give him the chance to finish what he stared but I am sure a Lot of you won't even go see it if he has anything to do with it from what I have read...and to my own personal dismay I must say, I never watched LOST and so I had no prior formulated opinion on the man's writing. The way I saw it is despite the fact I wasn't interested in it at all "LOST" was a massive television success and perhaps one of the biggest ever next to "Roots"!

I have not watched 'Lost' and had no knowleges of this screenwriter.. A good writer has a goal(supplied by Scott)..and writes to meet that goal in a convuluted way so that it not a 5 minute short film.. How much of trhe screenplay for Prometheus II has been done?" Certainly if a sequal is to be released in 2 years..,, i bet many words have already been committed. It takes time to get commitments from actors.. set designer..locations.. I think at this stage of Ridley's life he should be thinking in 1 or two years increments,,,not 5 or ten.. Could we really last til the sequel is released in 2022?

"...I'd like to know if there were also engineers in the other temples. had same problem? no survivors? etc...." Yes say in about 10 Earth years a Explorer Ship retraces the path of Prometheus..lands and searches all for the hangers.. I keep forgeting there are other hangers,,and should have some story to tell.. Did Promethetheus ever send out a distress warning/alarm that might be able to heard on Earth or A Weyland worked property?

I guess the 'infection' must have spread to the other ships and installations , or at least to the ship that Shaw and David took , I gather they never ran into anything else...

THe Engineers' ships must be pretty well prepared to be dormant for eons and than instantly be able to go hyper space..No pre flight check list,,no ground crew..and use a human and Android (Alien) Pilots!

@Sparty I'd have thought they already have a timeline and a flow from beginning to end all played out. All the dots joined, rather than going on a tangent after this one just to 'fit There's an explanation for everything and i'm sure theyre covered. Lindelof just fills in the gaps with dialogue etc. rather than the underlying threads

".....There's an explanation for everything ..." I just hope I can understand the explanations,,,,or will the answers create more 'interesting questions' as one poster has already mentioned..

The bodies of the dead three are still in their sarcophagi. I don't know what happened to them, but I'm not one of the ones who believes that the Last Engineer killed them. I suspect that there is/was a shot in which David discovers at least one of the corpses and that it was cut. The holes were created from the inside.

I've just received the book of the movie and notice with this page: I'm not very understand why No. 4 is different from the others 3... and is it the last engineer we saw at the movie was slept at this special capsule? And may I ask if anyone know that who acted the engineer that sat at the orrery console seems like a captain of the 4 engineers?

The last time I watched the film I concentrated only the following images during the orrey scene: 1) The images of the Engineers. 2) The hyper-sleep chambers. At no point during that scene was I actually able to discern exactly how many hyper-sleep chambers have holes in their covers. In the image that's linked in the initial post in this thread one cannot for certain confirm if the upper right hand hyper-sleep chamber has a hole in it's cover. I just looked at all of the relevant images that are located in this site's image galleries and I still cannot find a shot that clearly shows the state of the cover of the upper right hand hyper-sleep chamber. The more that time goes on the more I begin to think that the Engineers we see in the flight-deck holograms are in fact the Engineer version of the landing crew of the Prometheus. I cannot help but think that the Engineers in that hologram were not the crew of the Juggernaut where the sleeping Engineer is found by David. I think the holgraphic flight-deck Engineers were visiting the flight deck to see where the crew of the Juggernaut was located. In the hologram we see them walking around and slowly inspecting objects both on and off the raised platform. Separately, if you go to the below link you will see a photo of one of the "guardian" Engineers that is on David's right hand when he first enters the flight deck. That Engineer has what looks like dried Black Goo running down it's helmet. I caught that detail the 3rd or 4th time I saw the film and was not able to confirm that detail until I recently picked up the July issue of American Cinematographer. http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/ac/ac0712/?ap=1#/32 Remember, the flight-deck hologram ends abruptly, as if there had been an event that had stopped its recording. Also, David is so taken with the glowing sphere of the Earth that we do not see what happened to the images of the Engineers just before the image comes to a halting end. I know that this is just another theory but I increasingly think that Scott put the truth of the film right before our eyes and a lot of us are not seeing it because we are latching onto phrases uttered by some of the actors in the film, lines such as "We were so wrong".
