Damon Lindelof

I just wanted to stick up for Lindelof a bit. I never finished LOST and haven't watched a lot of his other works, but I do know a lot of people on this site are not happy with his writing and aren't looking forward to the potential Prometheus sequel because he may be finishing it. But I'd just like to say if a lot of his dislike comes from the less than spectacular LOST finale that we should give him another chance. As a writer and an artists sometimes you mess up or make a big mistake, hopefully he learned from his. The sequel would give him a chance to finish his writing and complete the story, so I think it is fair if we let him do this without tearing him down. We should also appreciate the things he has done, after all if it was all terrible we all wouldn't be on this site talking about it, right? So lets be encouraging and not condemn something that is not done yet, he may pull through and surprise everyone!

If you watched all his work you might have a better idea of why people are so upset with him. :P
I loved LOST for the first 2 seasons and then grew tired of the "keep watching, answers will come" thing, so I stopped watching. I recently went and watched the series on DVD and my god I am glad i left when I did because the series got really garbled and confusing and the ending was a letdown. It's not that he is a bad writer it is that he doesn't deliver what he promises. I have seen all his other work and it's the same pattern over and over. His theme/style of writing seems to be "stick with us, the answers will come" but he never delivers the answers. It's a super crummy way to reel people in and most people resent being played like that. What Lindelof IS good at is writing Comic books, his style is perfect for that media. I have read his HULK series and it's really good. Click-->Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk
As for the Prometheus sequel, no one even knows if Ridley or him are even going to be involved.

@Svanya...... What was wrong with the newest Star Trek movie?
Also, I actually loved all the seasons of LOST including the finale. I think its ridiculous when
everyone says that Lindelhof is not a good writer ect. If you did really like LOST then apparently he isn't that bad. Last time I checked a bad writer couldn't create something as suspenseful, intriguing, and thought provoking as LOST. The only reason people didn't like where the show went is because it didn't go where they thought it would, and they think there own idea was better. (Which I still think is one of the main reasons people don't like Prometheus) When you have a show like LOST and Prometheus which is thought provoking and leaves things unanswered so that there can continue to be discussion even after its over of course you aren't going to agree with some of the choices the writer makes. If somebody doesn't want a show like that then just go watch one of the reality shows or sitcoms that are so popular.
For an example, a lot of people always say the last few seasons of 24 were awful. Yes they were not even close to as good as the first few seasons but awful? Even the worst season of 24 was more entertaining than the case of the week and most other similar shows at the time.
The same thing goes for LOST and Prometheus. Just because LOST didn't go where you thought it was going to go doesn't mean it wasn't better than almost everything else on television. Just because Prometheus didn't explain what you have been waiting for 30 years to know, don't say it was a slick Science-Fiction movie with good CGI at best. A slick Science-Fiction movie is Battleship, Battle Los Angeles, War of the Worlds, Independence Day ect ect. Now is Prometheus as good as ALIEN? Did it not answer what you thought it was going to? Maybe not. Did it live up to expectations? The expectations were the highest for a movie in a long time, so that was going to be nearly impossible.
IMO Damon Lindelhof did an incredible job. He wrote the script for a movie that is a great looking Science-Fiction movie that is very entertaining, and deals with the big questions. There is few other movies that can have as much discussion on real world topics as Prometheus. Lindelhof's script also allows a fantastic series to continue whereas a direct sequel would not have. And don't forget that Michael Fassbender needed dialogue to say.

Never watched lost personally, but from what I hear it's stylistically similar to the x-files in that it raises more questions than it answers each episode. This can be done right, and when it does it ends up using your imagination to the fullest (for example the nothing in the never ending story). Showing a shadow or only the eyes of a monster can be much more effective, because it leaves room for you to make it into whatever scares u most subconsciously. I felt Prometheus fell within the boundaries of showing enough to hold the story together, and don't think it's fair to constantly drag lost into juxtaposition as why Damon can't write. Maybe I should watch Lost sometime, but as for now all I know is there is a polar bear on a tropical island?

@ZMAN3494; Erm, I never mentioned the Star Trek movie. :P
His style of writing is quick and easy for an ADD generation, imo. It isn't bad but it isn't great either. He just never seems to finish what he starts, be it an idea or theme.

He is a hack, and has stated that he likes leaving things open for the viewer to make up their own mind, which makes his job half as easy as it should be. I hate being told half a story, especially when the first half promises something good at the end of the tale, and the delivery is sub-standard. I paid good money to see Prometheus, and while I didn't flat out hate it, it's not going to be making it's way onto my favorite movie list methinks.

I second that :-P

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

@ZMAN3494: Lindelof didn't write the latest Star Trek, he produced it. And yes, it's a great film, probably the best in that franchise so far.
As for Lost, I was totally hooked almost to the very end, which was - sorry to say - very tacky if not cheesy! And that at the end of such a great and promising series. Season 1,2, 4 and 5 were SO GOOD!
@Svanya and Cypher: Well put, I'm with you on that one, as most of the time! :))

Ok, here you all have some answers to some mysteries of LOST, like the polar bears on the tropical island :p ... I really want to do the same with Prometheus, but no, I can not LOL

and by the way ... there is a big easter egg to "A Clockwork Orange" there...

Oh wow, I'm so behind on my own topic! haha
@svanya I see what you mean, maybe this time he will listen to what his fans/not fans have to say and he will have more "solid" answers for some people. I didn't know he wrote comics! I'll check them out : )
@zman i also agree with you, I suppose it's just all a matter of opinion. But seeing as how so many people loved LOST and Prometheus regardless of their flaws maybe it does mean he is a good writer after all.
