It does not fit the tineline at all. Even though Alien takes place in the future. The derelict has been on LV-426 for hundreds of thousands, or over millions of years. Nice theory but it does not fit.

Was Prometheus supposed to be a standalone film or a prequel?I am so confused because nothing ties in with Alien from what I have seen from the movie. This is one of the main issues with people I talk to who really rage at this decent film.

I hope the 10.11.12 RELAUNCH isn't some sorta kinky get-out-clause written into Lindelof's script contract. Or Spaiht's, to be frank. I hope they weren't intending to DAVE TRANSMISSION the whole Prometheus event through an android's eyes. I hope. I hope. I hope. Like a real boy.

Ridley hinted the Derelict was on LV 426 for a long long time. Then again the sly bugger also refers to Prometheus at times as the Progenitor to Alien.... But looking at all thats been said and what we have seen from Alien and Prometheus it would seem that a Engineer had been taking a Ship full of a Cargo of Eggs (so not laid after crash) but one of the Eggs Hatched and infected the Pilot who had to make a emergency landing and set out the SOS. We cant rule out maybe this Engineer was infected before he took off and thus his last action before he succumbed to the Xeno was to get rid of the remainder of the Cargo. We also do not know the destination of that Derelict we could assume it was Earth but we dont know for sure. We only know that the Engineers on LV 223 at about the time of their demise had intended to use the Bio Weapon from the Urns to get rid of life on Earth.
