Maybe the onboard computer is programmed to give very pessimistic warnings. Maybe Shaw clipped in an oxygen pack. Maybe it's not really that important. Second Engineers' ship: We don't know what happened in the second ship. There may be dead or hibernating Engineers or none at all. There's no suggestion anywhere in the movie that bacteria are an issue. But they went in there forearmed with knowledge this time. Food: If you watch, Shaw collects supplies before she exits the lifeboat.
