Ok, so there is no clear explanation for the chest busted SJ in the original Alien and when it occurred... BBBBUT!!! If the SJ in the original is from sometime in the distant or even NOT so distant past, WHY does the ship very clearly appear to be the exact type/model of ship that was kamikazied/crashed into and compromised on LV-233? Did anyone notice, when the android was in the navigation room, if any of the other SJ-eys there were chest busted? Unfortunately, I only saw it once but have never been so attracted to a movie/story and questions about a plot line as Prometheus. I think I was first astounded at the level of intent and creativity these engineers show at creating something so terribly dark, so Goddamned teeth-grinding vicious... to annihilate us. Are there so few of their species? Why would they want to cause such horror, such fear in the victims (being us)? It would seem their feelings for us go beyond hatred and involve sadism... not even indifference, like what the nazis showed the Jews. Even Stalin was paranoid. Still, very peculiar, it seemed the engineer was certain NOT to have anything to do with us for even a moment after we woke him up in the navigation room. What is the reason for their actions?

It doesn't appear to be the same ship. There are many differences. The stasis pods in the cockpit and the design/shape of the exterior. I still believe that all these changes are simply design changes. Simple as that. Yes, the 3 other stasis pods in the cockpit had holes in them as if they were chest-busted.

BTW...Welcome to the forum! You should go see it again if it's still on near you. Also, in regards to there being only a few Engineers, if you look around the net you will find pics of a deleted scene where there are like 13(I believe) other Engineers at the beginning with the sacrificial Engineer. I'm enthralled by the Engineers as well. So glad Scott went with it being a suit rather than exoskeleton. Every version of the SJ I've seen that was done with the creature standing upright just looked horrible. Especially the ones in the comics. More humanioid creatures are sooo much more interesting than another "scary" looking alien. An upright elephantine SJ would have looked silly, not scary.

Ridley said that they are the same kind of ship but the ship or any ships in Prometheus do not land on LV426 They are different internally but as far as the way it looks, well Ridley said the ship in Alien has decayed over time, but in Prometheus its as good as new. Yes the control room is different but if you look at say a Airbus A380 they are the same planes but you dont have to have the same interior lay out. Ridley also said what happened to the ship in Alien. In nutshell its this. 200 years ago prior to the downfall and outbreak on LV 223 (so 2200 years ago or maybe with regards to Prometheus timeline). A Juggernaut Space Ship had set off away from LV 223 to a unspecified destination. However during this mission one of its Cargo of Eggs gets lose and infects the Pilot, the Pilot then heads to land the craft to the closest baron moon and goes to send out a warning signal that he has been infected and the cargo compromised but he gets chest busted as he is attempting a emergency landing.
