Love the universe, enjoyed the movie. But I noticed that during sometime in the future, this universe allows for humans to have quite high-tech equipment including human-like androids, bi-pass surgery machines, hyper sleep chambers, ships that can travel across galaxies, and even flying "pups" to map caves....so I was wondering WHY THE HELL is the Prometheus crew still using flashlights and ladders that you could buy from a Home Depot in the 1970s? Your thoughts please.

Hmmm. Let me think... why does Shaw use chopsticks to eat her dinner? If you can answer that question (and it really shouldn't take that long to figure out the right answer) you will have answered your own question, godo.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

Humans are so technological adept, why do we still use COINS from before the Roman Empire 2,000 years ago? LOL, etc.

I once came across a tale some time ago ( whether this is just an urban myth I'm not sure), but during the space race NASA apparently spent millions on designing a pen that could write in space. The Russians on the other hand opted for pencils.

zzplural, i imagine you mean because it's difficult to improve on simple things that serve such useful purposes, but on a deeper level it probably has to do with Ridley Scotts's fascination with blending eastern and western cultures in his view of the future, such as Rick deckard eating at a ramen noodle stand in the movie Bladerunner.

Indeed, Ridley likes his chopsticks :) As indeed do I! Each time I visit Japan, it's a joy to leave the barbaric forks & knives behind me.
