It made me instantly think of Prometheus right away as Holloway used his flashlight down the "crucified Xenomorph" Mural. Interesting?

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 11:40 AMHmmmm.... interesting. Never heard of that being in the deleted scenes before.

MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 11:53 AMBut glad they not even included those on the deleted scenes released so far.
Adds nothing to the movie and ties it too strongly to the old, spent franchise, which is something they allegedly are trying to do (hope soars!)

+the Mural itself is shaped like an egg in Prometheus.
The eerie similarities cant be avoided. And Giger's only contribution to Prometheus is the second, "updated" lifecycle Mural right?
I guess now I must hope for a new version of Alien with its Mural scene attached :D

Alien DNA
MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 12:16 PMI can see why they didn't use it though, there would have been no surprise to the chest bursting scene, maybe even making it less iconic without the surprise.

Alien DNA
MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 12:21 PMBTW, technically couldn't that mean that this mural is hanging in one of the engineers juggernauts?

Tykjen
MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 12:32 PMThat is very spot on, Alien DNA. I guess the mysterious Mural in Prometheus is a silent nod to the original, while not revealing anything about Holloway's impending doom. So, lets say the theatrical version of Alien had Kane discovering the mural in Alien. -His impending doom would not have been a surprise to anyone, indeed.
An extended edition of Alien with the scene added would give us fanboys and girls a lot more to dissect and discuss. And think about everyone who does not know about this scene at all? ^
And again Alien DNA...you're asking a very interesting question. Could the original Mural end up being in the sequel to Prometheus? :D

BigDave
MemberDeaconSep-25-2012 1:02 PMSo they was going to use Gigers Mural... Interesting and yes you understand why they never did.
Ha ha whats funny though is the Original Alien Fan Boys who hate the idea of the Queen thanks to Aliens and how Prometheus has the Engineers as the Space Jockey...
If Alien kept the deleted scenes then we would see the Xeno could procreate via changing the crew into Eggs etc.....
But then the Mural would show Space Jockeys as Space Suits...
Guess you cant have your Cake and Eat it ;)

Alien DNA
MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 1:16 PMSo true BigDave, there it is in the original Alien, whether it be artwork or in film, the Space Jockey was indeed wearing a space suit the whole time. Pressure suit and all.

MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 1:32 PMWhoever edited Alien deserves an award. While the extra stuff is interesting, the film as it is had just the right amount of backstory and content-exposure.

MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 2:23 PMWell, I have been reading the early draft of the Alien script..and check this out:
INTERIOR - TOMB - DAY
Broussard is standing on a dusty stone floor, with a feeble column of
sunlight shining down around him from the tunnel above. Around is
solid darkness.
He flashes his datastick around. The beam reveals that he is in a
stone room. STRANGE HEIROGLYPHICS are carved into the walls. They have
a primitive, religious appearance. Row after row of pictograms stretch
from floor to ceiling, some epic history in an unknown language. Huge
religious symbols dominate one wall.
Spaced at intervals are stylized stone statues, depicting grotesque
monsters, half anthropoid, half octopus.
BROUSSARD
It's unbelievable! It's like some
kind of tomb... some primitive
religion! Hey, is anybody there? Do
you read me? Standard!
INTERIOR - TOMB - LATE AFTERNOON
Face bare, Broussard approaches the center of the room, which is
dominated by a large, broad pedestal. On the pedestal are ROWS OF
LEATHERY URNS OR JARS, EXACTLY LIKE THE ONE BROUSSARD STUMBLED ACROSS IN THE ALIEN SHIP -- EXCEPT THESE ARE ALL SEALED.
He walks around the urns, studying them. They all have sealed lids. He
shines his light on one of them; then he lays his gloved hand on it.
He lifts his mask radio to his lips.
BROUSSARD
I don't know if you can hear me, but
the place is full of large bottles
or jars, just like the one we found
on the other ship -- except these
are all sealed. Also they're soft to
the touch.
He peers more closely at the leathery object.
BROUSSARD (CONT'D)
Another funny thing -- I just put my
hand on it, and now there are these
raised areas appearing where my
fingertips were.

Engineering
MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 2:28 PMYeah, this was an idea but it was never filmed so it's not a deleted scene. I thought this was pretty wide spread knowledge with Alien fans. Much like the temple and the head or what some people describe as a skull on top, this was an un-used idea from Alien that Scott used in Prometheus. I love that Scott fit these un-used ideas and concepts into the film and am very happy to see that he's doing the same thing with the Blade Runner sequel.

Tykjen
MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 2:43 PMLooks like it was filmed to me. But that is not the main point anyway. The main point is that the haters of the queen and those that refuse to admit the space jockey wore a space suit will have to shut up now, as those ideas are actually originating from the very first movie in the franchise :)

MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 4:54 PMI assume Dan O'Bannon is happy in heaven now. Justice!
Pretty awesome how many of his original un-used ideas for Alien, has ended up being used in Prometheus.

Not fully no. They only made a mock of the Giger hieroglyphics which is what you see during that O' Bannon interview. A test.

AdminPraetorianSep-25-2012 6:46 PM@Tykjen ; Great post!! A member named Mr.J posted a very interesting thread on the topic awhile back. I posted there too circling the facehugger in the design. I am glad so many others see the same elements in the two murals, mean they did their job well in creating it, got the message across.

@Engineering, It does look like it was filmed, because I saw a flashlight shine over it.

MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 7:09 PMWell,

Actually those that hate the Queen and do not like the depiction of the engineers are just sad that the orginality and mind provoking elements originally there were lost to more movie pratical yet very cliche aesthetics used so far, which might change in the sequel.

Anyway the Alien Director's Cut was released to convey what they wanted with the story and it was more faithfull to the book which was released to print and public BY Obannon and Shusett...and those never had those "unused" ideas for a reason: they would not have so much an impact back then and would not be so ind provoking ideas in the end.

So my opinion (and others are with me) remains the same. The elements if kept like they were really intended to be (without some of this conceptual artwork and unused scripts discarded) would have been a lot more original and mind provoking...

MemberOvomorphOct-05-2012 5:21 AMIt looks like one of many Giger paintings and is probably hanging in his Swiss museum or a Gigerbar. I was noticing the mural from Prometheus that you circled Tykjen. The figure at the top is unclear and I could not really make it out and I wonder if it is a queen or a human host or something else. The facehuggers on the sides are easy to see and the next stage on the sides are fine too and of course the middle is the easiest to see but that top one is vague.

MemberOvomorphDec-13-2012 8:54 AM@Tykjen . That picture showing the Engineers being facehugged then chestbursted is interesting because if you look at the bottom it looks like they are collecting the remains of the sacrifice. That could be what the black goo is.
