According to Dr Biltoo, the Benediction Script went something like this: The language that the Engineer uses in his role as officiating ‘priest’ is clearly the same language that is heard at several other points in the film: if there were any doubts as to this, one of the distinctive, difficult to pronounce clicks of the type that David practices with the virtual tutor is included in the benediction. vratra-sunu-saŋgena, kludh! tanus teva pərətu ʔādat, kruhs teva āpam. gwhitam-usjah-kwe ʔasyat ei pṇthane – nəsmuh aja. There's no translation, but (again) we have the likes of Sukkal to translate when Elder Engineer says to Sacrificial Engineer. :) WOAH, that didn't paste very well, correct wordage at the link, Sukkal.

SUPPLEMENTAL: from the Biltoo interview: and, yes, it's very interesting. A language spoken at the start of life on Earth would not, of course, be known to a life form that evolved – or should I say, was mutated – much later. How, then, to account for the connection between the language of the Engineers and an archaic form of speech belonging to the Indo-European language family? The only possible conclusion that can be drawn is that the Engineers did not simply create life on Earth and then leave, with no interest as to the progress of their experiment. They returned – goodness knows how many times – influencing and steering the course of human development – goodness know why. The last time they did so was around 2000 years ago.

I have to confess to being a bit surprised at some of the comments on various fan sites suggesting that ‘Prometheus’ hadn’t lived up to expectations because it had failed to reveal the meaning of existence. Well, there’s no accounting for what some folk expect for a few bucks. Very well put, lol. I like his analysis. I like the 3 main questions that he breaks it down to: Ultimately, one might suggest that there are three key questions, to which the viewer must provide the answers that make the most sense according to his/her world view and belief system: 1) To what end did the Engineers create life on Earth? 2) Why did they stop visiting around 2000 years ago? 3) Why would at least one faction wish to destroy (or to further mutate) all life on Earth?

"god doesnt play dice with the universe- and neither does ridley scott. " Interesting. Dr. biltoo certainly seems to be a vigorous supporter of the film.

Here is the text normalized for display on the forum in what we call the "common romanization" (This site does not support the native display of IPA (the international phonetic alphabet)): vratra-sunu-sangena, kludh! tanus teva pârâtu ’aadat, kruhs teva aapam. gwhitam-usya-kwe ’asyat ei pnnthane — nâsmuh aya. Also, since the script segment is out. vratra-sunu-sangena = brother-son-kindred kludh! = Listen! tanus = body teva = your pârâtu = earth, ground, soil (of a planet) ’aadat = "let it become" or "may it become" kruhs = blood teva = your aapam = water(s) gwhitam-usya = soul (lit.: "life-essence") -kwe = and ’asyat = be ("let it be") ei = their pnnthane = path; way nâsmuh = [not sure about the literal meaning of this] aya = us (I'm pretty sure but not 100%) The combination of "nâsmuh aya" does mean "back to us" or "returning to us" though. It's exciting to see that at least as they were originally conceived for the production, the Engineers are not just a bunch of monsters. :•) EDIT: The segment is found on Disc 3 in the Enhancement Pods about half-way through. The coolest thing about the WHOLE "Language of the Gods" pod for me is not what was hacked from the film (though that is super cool in and of itself), but rather Dr. Biltoo performing his translation of "Tears in Rain" in the Engineers’ language. I just wonder why that didn't make it into the main making-of documentary... ? ? ?

Wow! Very interesting. Take a look at this. @joeyjoe God does not only play dice with the universe, but does not know where he is throwing them! As for RS, since he is human maybe he does!

"- - - and may your soul become their way back to us" <-- what the Elder said in the video shows that they came back many times and wanted to have peace with them, not to destroy. This adds more depth in the beginning.

Sukkal, you star - and many thanks for adding that bit of MEANING back into a harshly cropped narrative. :)

@Feebs I'm not sure how to try to interpret "May your soul be their way back to us." I've though that maybe it means "May your soul (NB: "life essence") become the ancestor of future (humanoid) souls (NB: "life essences") on this world so that we will have a connection to it (the world) and/or them (the humanoids on it)." One way or another, it's about establishing a CONNECTION to the world, which seems consistent with with Ridley's idea that they are "gardeners." The fact that this fairly benevolent ceremony (in terms of its relationship to humans on Earth) was removed, may mean that even though there was an idea at some point that the Engineers were "just gardeners," now, the idea of the franchise is to simply monsterize them. I lot can happen to a society in millions of years.

To a complete layman that I am, May your soul be their way back to us sounds more less like : May your soul become a path which will lead them (earthly men) back to us. I wonder, what should one search for in order to find (recognize) sacrificial engineer’s Soul ? How that Soul could be a way back ? Unless it becomes obvious, when the soul is found (recognized). And finally back to us. Us ? It keeps me thinking whether the Priest referred to the Engineers or to someone else, something more ? I also wonder, when the priest said ei/their - did he speak of living men (embodied souls) or did the priest mean souls freed from bodies after death ? I think it does make a difference. But if I am wrong and made mistake, I am sorry.

I recently read Dr. Bitoo comments about the deleted openning scene with the Elders. I thouhght his comments were worthwhile and deserve more attention. It was curious that that it was an RS decision not to include subtitles or explanation as to what was said. Since in the released version we are presented with the Lone Engineer , sacrificial scene, there have been many explantionas to what was really happenning. I think in this case the deleted scene added to the viewer's understanding of the start of human life and made sense of our first view of the seeding process. Deleted scenes may not be canon but I think in this case it fills a need in the sroryline and helps to curb endless explanation made by posters that propose wild theries that have no basis in fact. I don't think the deleterd Elder's scene is an alternate take or storyline that was discarded in favor of a somewhat different view of the movie. This deleted scene is an added element that I think helps explain what we view later on in the film. Our finished movie may be the Diector's cut...but a future Director's Cut should enclude this early deleted scene. Can something be canon and yet not be canon?

I like it especially when Dr. Biltoo talks about where the languages come from and how the Engineers are "gardeners" of the universe.

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

Yes, Anunnaki50, the storyline he talks about was very clear in his mind. That must have been very clear i RS's mind and should have been canon.
