MemberOvomorphOct-17-2012 4:58 PMHi,
I am waiting to buy a Blu-Ray player until I get an HD TV. I am on disability so I have to save.
I bought, what looked like, the ONLY straight DVD Amazon had. I just got it and have not opened it because it looks so bare and cheap. There are no extras but deleted scenes.
Is this the only straight DVD available? Please I am not talking about the Blu-Ray version w/DVD etc. I will probably get that in the future. I am sure the special features listed for the Blu-Ray version are actually on the Blu-Ray discs as I have heard the DVD is the same as the one I bought.
Are there any other "Special Edition" straight DVDs?
Thanks!

MemberOvomorphOct-17-2012 5:07 PMit looks like the only special edition is on blue-ray only. if you own a ps3 you can play region free blue-ray dvds on it.

Custodian
MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 1:04 AMI got the DVD out of the library to watch it, nothing extra - no scenes, no making of.
B-astards.
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 2:42 AMyou dont have to wait until you purchase an HD TV to buy a blu ray player. You can hook a blu ray player up to a standard def. or CRT tv. The picture and audio quality will basically be the same as they would be on DVD, but you will at least have access to everything. If you take advantage of the Best Buy "upgrade and save" program (trade in an old crappy dvd you no longer want), you can purchase the 4 disc blu ray collectors edition of prometheus for the exact same price as the single DVD. You could hook up a cheap blu ray player to your standard def. tv and you would then effectively have access to everything (displaying in 480p (standard def) or whatever your tv is capable of). You could then take your time saving up for a solid Hi def. TV. If you hunt around, good deals can be found. Blu ray combined with Hi def tv (1080p) really is the way to go if you can afford it. Take your time, save some money, hunt for deals. My point is that Blu ray/hi def is not some gimmick (example of gimmick in my opinion would be 3D. complete garbage). The difference (both sonically and visually) between a properly setup hi def/blu ray system and dvd/standard def. system is night and day. good luck!
edit: to your initial question...the DVD you purchased is the only dvd available for prometheus. And yes...its completely bare bones. The 4 disc blu ray set is where its at (even if you dont like 3d...i hate 3d! you still get loads of goodies in the 4 disc/3D release of prometheus and you can just choose whether you want to watch the film in hi def 3D or Hi def 2D)

MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 8:02 AMI'm using the single ..plain disc version and and played it several times in the week or so,,since purchase. I might miss all the special features,,but so far I have been enjoying the movie,,more than in the theatrical release.
There is one audio track feature(which I hope is in the special edition) that contains all of the dialoge of the movie,,,with a female voice over..talking about what we are actually seeing,,,much like what the script would contain..
I could not pull up the closed caption..on this audio track.
I was something that I have never heard before.. I used this
'narration track' when the wife watched the movie with me...and she enjoyed it very much as it explained some details..that are easily missed..
For me I learned much more about the details,..and scene meaning..charactor developments..that escaped me in previous viewings and reading this sites posts.

MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 8:13 AMI looked at the 4 disc Blu-Ray Special Edition at Amazon and it looks like disc 2 is an actual standard DVD. If this is true I will return this DVD (it is unopened) and get that one and buy a Blu-Ray player next month.
Is that 2nd disc actually a DVD I can play now?

MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 11:45 AMyes (its actually disc 4, but its identical to the other dvd you purchased).
4 disc collectors set...
disc 1: hi def. 3D prometheus. (blu ray)
disc 2: hi def. 2D prometheus (+ writer and director commentary + all deleted/alternate scenes + weyland files). (Blu ray)
disc 3: hi def. 4 hour documentary + more extras/archives. (blu ray)
disc 4: standard def. prometheus. (dvd)
If i were you id definitely go exchange the dvd for the 4 disc collectors blu ray set. If you have a best buy, you could possibly get the 4 disc blu ray set for the same price as the single dvd (see my previous post for various details). theres really no decision whatsoever. I dont understand how they've sold any of those dvds (seeing as how the big blu ray set can be had for the same price and includes a dvd copy of the film plus a boat load more).
