The more I look at the dismissed concepts for what Fifeld was transforming into and, instead, was swapped for the human contortion Fifeld, I think this was a very bad judgement for Ridley Scott to do.
I think I understand that he wanted to distant his ideas from what has gone on in the first movie, but I think this was an error.
Anyone else agree or disagree?

MemberOvomorphNov-05-2012 1:00 PMI agree, the zombie look of Fifield rather than the proto-Alien configuration disappointed me. The Fifield designs in the 'Art of' book and the Blu-Ray extras were truly nightmarish and insidious and promised oblique hints of the possible angle of Alien genesis and creation. There seemed to be some strange halfway implication of the space-helmet fusing to the head and becoming almost like the classic Alien cranium. To use that to explain in some leftfield way the skull under the cowl as a result of a genetic fusion of organic and synthetic would've been a stroke of genius. I'm hoping for some really eerie denizens along these lines in the sequel. They don't have to be cgi.

CGI can really lose an audience if it is the least bit hokey-looking & moving around too fast, or unrealistically!

MemberDeaconNov-05-2012 4:23 PMWell they was also working on another Fifield that would be animatronic, it would have maybe been worn by a actor and then we would have seen CGI rendered over in places to create the effect.

This is the one i am referring to, and i agree this one may had looked a little too Xeno DNA influenced and Ridley did say some things was scraped and cut down to reduce the Xeno DNA in the movie and savour it for the Shaws Baby and its Life Cycle.

No offense, but I can't help but disagree about that. There's no need to 'savor/save' for the last scene, it all could have been integrated to have this sustained sense of ever unfolding horror, like one of those Russian dolls where you open one and find another doll inside and you open it and there is another....
I believe this.

I would agree 1,000,000% if i could. I can't convey to you how much i love this movie and would LOOOVE/KILL SOMEONE to see a cut with some polished up, more Xeno-esque Fifield.
On my first viewing, this was one of the more confusing parts and didnt seem to fit.
That being said; i DO appreciate Ridley's desire to avoid heavy CG where possible.

MemberOvomorphNov-06-2012 12:48 AM @ Fleshvessel *I like your name
Somehow, the CG has been allowed to be used as the main star actor, if you catch my meaning, as a production saving practice (?) instead of using it when it would be most effective and using practical effects/sets/make up as in the days of old.
Creature costume design has improved over the years, it's just bringing both worlds together in harmony instead of one overwhelming the other, as in the George Lucas case and those prequels.

MemberOvomorphNov-06-2012 6:51 AMFiField seemed so mishapened when first found just outside the Prometheus loading doors, Then he is not only upright but bouncing off the walls as he attacked the humans,
I say that because the man we knew as FiField is gone,,with just his body being used by an alien.
In looking at the various shots that extend FiField's Zombie like facetime I think the amount of time in the movie was enough, He is still going to die(again) and what i saw on the screen was just about right,
It is curious to me withh all the unused material,,that perhaps RS had something more in mind for this charactor

MemberOvomorphNov-06-2012 7:32 AM The unusual resting position of alien Fifeld in front of Prometheus ship is the attitude of the alien, THAT should have been, instead of retaining his human characteristics, an alien assimilated form, biohumanoid in shape, yes, not still human.
Wrong decision by Ridley Scott. His internal misgivings or fear of associating with 'alien 1979 movie' is demonstrably wrong here. imo

MemberOvomorphNov-06-2012 9:22 AMAgreed. I LOVE the folded up, crab- like position; resembling the Xeno. This was perfect, however i would gladly take ANY of the alternate FIFIELDs over the "Zombie".
They need a Director's Cut with A and B options for mutant Fifield scene, lol. This way everyone is happy.

THe sudden appearence of FiField at the foot of Prometheus,is curious.Did he crawl from the Tunnels and just drop into the ctab like position?
Since the incubation period was the same as Millburn just where was FiField while Millburn was discovered by the crew?
And finally why was the xmission from FiField only picked up when he was at the ship's ramp,,in fact right at the edge of the ramp when it was lowered?
This seems to be a structured,,scripted set of scenes..not only as RS portrayed them but set up by a yet unseen entity that it's sort of looking over the situation
The reasons are have not been revealed..

MemberOvomorphNov-06-2012 10:30 AMThis is mighty interesting. Hmm, you are right. Where was Fifield all that time!?
It seems like he was just "on standby", waiting outside the ship when they picked up his transmission.
There's no way he had enough brains left to think to enable his transmitter (or whatever) and lure the crew outside. Wtf? This is my new point of interest, thanks Indy John.
Where was Fifield all that time?! I am going into viewing number 12 with this question in mind.

MemberOvomorphNov-06-2012 2:39 PMDefinitely one of the interesting parts of the movie. Did Fifield get morphed into a mindless mutant-alien like creature that got up and started moving after he lost control of his mind, or did we have it partially figured out and he does die and come back sort of like a zombie-alien-mutant? So many possibilities around what the goo does to Fifield and how he differs from Holloway.

MemberFacehuggerNov-06-2012 5:02 PMIn the Furious Gods Ridley mentions (or someone else) that Fifield was infected with the same thing the Engineer head had and at some point it would have suffered the same exploding head syndrome. That might plays a big part on why they went with that design.

MemberOvomorphNov-07-2012 3:20 AM"Fiefield's monitors have just popped up".
No big mystery, really. When his monitors did pop up, they were extremely glitchy and there was a lot of video break-up. i.e. the equipment was not working properly. Probably damaged when he was thrashing about somewhere. Equipment that works intermittently can go offline/online at any time.
I find it interesting that, even though he became a bloodthirsty zombie, he still had the presence of mind to set down within centimetres of where the hangar door eventually dropped.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

Indy John
MemberOvomorphNov-07-2012 5:58 AMHeck that video breakup was evident when he and Millburn were stuck overnight in the tunnels Your explanation is more practical and grounded(no pun intended)
Would the Prometheus have any kind of ground radar/sensor that could pick up the new FiField as he travelled from Bee Hive to the ship..before his video kicked in?
Also what about those personnnel locaters that were used when then mapping of the pyramids sill not functioning. For a safety device, they crapped out at the time they were needed most.
In looking over this note perhaps there could have been some sabotage on board the Prometheus(David or Vickers) that affected the recieving/xmission of signals from the ship to the tunnels...or the other way around.

MemberOvomorphNov-07-2012 8:07 PM That has me really wondering. Fifeld and Milburn were deep in the Engineers' underground installation, after the incident with the hammerpedes and black goo, Fifeld was beginning his transformation.
Now, let me point this out:
The new form worms stayed in their environment, they seem to remain in the black liquid from which they were reborn.
Fifeld, consumed quite a lot of the black goo, in fact, Fifeld and the worms both experienced a 'drenching' if you get my meaning and absorbed quite a lot.
Fifeld creature, instead of remaining within the underground complex and just wandering about, wandered right out and was mobile up until it got to Prometheus ship and stayed in a resting position.
What does it mean?????

You need to Chill, Indy.
A lot in this story is strange and getting stranger. It's provoking questions and I"m not the only one, everyone else is asking questions and throwing their 2 cent theories on it.
