MemberOvomorphNov-05-2012 2:18 PM The opening scene of the Oval/Elliptical spaceship shows .. not only in the design..but in how it leaves the planet on end...that a vastly different set of beings are actually manipulating our story,
The Sacrificials Engineers are just tools to be used in the seeding of planets...but are not the creators of this method.
As this scene unfolds with the ship tuning on end as it rises through the clouds,,leaving the gaze of the Sacrificial Engineer..it turns on end( not in the Human/Engineer development pattern.)..but it would be in the world of beings that use engineers as a sort of Zoo/Laboratoy...seeding planets as needed..with the appropriate DNA.
The movie display of the up ended ship indicates a race of beings far different than what we have encountered so far,,
In reading back through this note it does seem a little silly..but there must be a practical explanations why the ship turning occurred,,at this time in the movie and in this manner.

MemberOvomorphNov-05-2012 2:27 PMthe ship does that for the same reason the black goo is kept in glass jars, it looks cool and visually interesting. i really don't think they thought about stuff like that when coming up with how the engineers tech worked, they just wanted it to look and act really alien and be interesting visually.

MemberOvomorphNov-05-2012 3:44 PMHmmm yes you're right it was turning as it departed the planet. I had to pull up the movie and watch that opening scene again. However, it doesn't really reveal anything due to the fact that the ship design is completely different from the Juggernaut ship. So it just flies differently. Does that mean there is a different race flying it? No not really..

MemberOvomorphNov-05-2012 3:45 PMYou are probably right. Save the really interesting /plausible details for important scenes,,

MemberOvomorphNov-05-2012 3:51 PMAnd in the deleted scene from the opening sequence, there are many more Engineers on the rocks, including Elder Engineers, kinda giving their blessing to the sacrificial Engineer. And these are the Engineers that departed in the Oval like ship afterwards.

When the Juggernaut leaves it's underground hanger,,it moves steadily.. deliberately.. as the Engineer prepares to destroy Earth......but it also moves flat relative to the moon's surface..
As another poster has mentioned that the little things/details might not be important,,and unrelated to our storyline.
To paraphrase LoA..:
"The trick, William Potter, to sort ot the Critical from the unimportant".....and that is hard work.

MemberOvomorphNov-05-2012 4:26 PMA practical explanation for the disc-like ship turning upwards is that it has the effect of minimising atmospheric drag. It also leads to more stable flight. A frisbee self-corrects in a similar manner when you throw it. If you threw a frisbee straight up, the only way to do it is edge-on to the direction of motion.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent
