nostromo001November 18, 2012There have been a lot of humorous responses so it makes it hard to take this question seriously, but here goes:
The black goo is such a powerful mutagen that even diluted in volume of water of the ocean it would probably wind up turning every form of life it came into contact with destructive and if life in the ocean were destroyed guess what would happen to life on the rest of the world. The plankton if destroyed would in itself eliminate the main source of oxygen, and if that goes so goes all life on the planet.
I saw an interview with Ridley Scott and he speculated that a teaspoon of some bioweapon like something I am not going to mention by name could take out all the human on other life in all places that utilized that water source and then dissapear a few days later and thats the kind of thing he had in mind when he was writing about this goo.
