MemberOvomorphDec-04-2012 5:34 AMIn watching then sheen when Shaw tells Janek there is wilklo be no home to back to Vickers has an intense interest in what is being said.
Janek sort of grasps what is going on and gets the Ion engine warmed up.
If Vickers is really in charge and wants to go home why didn't she take over command of the ship by physically restaining/killing Janek?
BY incapacitaing Janek would Chance and Ravel stop the intended Juggernaut collision?
Vickers has motivation, she has strength and she has opportunity though just a few seconds to make a movie changing decision.
No she takes the escape pod route,,
Now that I think of about it why not take off for earth when the Last Engineer stated his throwdown with the crew and confront Janek then.

MemberOvomorphDec-04-2012 6:24 AMShe probably wanted an Earth to go back to, knowing that the corp are nearby to save her in a few months. The one reason she was there was because of Weyland, as soon as he dies she says to go home. I think everyone respected Janek more than her and believed him to be the Captain / Leader.
I think Vickers is all front too, she wouldn't have the balls to kill Janek. Like when she flame throws Holloway, she is horrified.

MemberOvomorphDec-04-2012 6:57 AMYes she may have been the least respected person on the Mission so would have followed her anywhere?
Janek perhaps but not after Shaw got into his head. In fact I think Janek felt like he was controlling Vickers judging by the way he(and his crew) speak of her(Lap dancing,, telling her to sit down for landing ect)
In thinking about this Shaw/ David are the only human charactors that could impose their will on the others and they are also the only surviviors.
I am not sure if the 'will' of Shaw's creature had a will but was able to take care of the last Engineer.
The Deacon is also a survivior. Will we see his 'will' imposed on others in the next installment?

MemberOvomorphDec-04-2012 11:19 AMShe's smart. Even if she had some kind of weapon to hand, threatening Janek wouldn't have achieved anything. His mind was made up, and he was dead already. And she couldn't fly the ship. Therefore, she had to leg it.

Vickers has to rely on someone to fly the ship!

MemberOvomorphDec-04-2012 12:11 PMActually except for toasting Holloway I am not sure Vickers did anything in the movie.

MemberOvomorphDec-05-2012 2:45 PMThe character of Vickers was very one-dimensional - shame too because Ms Theron is a joy to behold.
Indy's right - besides toasting Holloway ("You're not coming aboard with alien on your face!") she really didn't do much of anything - drink vodka, play smashface with David, frolic with the skipper.

MemberOvomorphDec-05-2012 5:07 PMVickers also played the corporate figurehead. The corporate bigwigs don't generally do action stuff; they give commands. This is what Vickers did, on quite a few occasions. She did a fair bit of pushing around. I don't remember Carter Burke in Aliens actually doing very much, apart from pushing over a couple of glass jars and running off, to put a similar character into perspective.
