I got this idea in my head from looking at stills of the engineers. Their suits appear to merge with their flesh. I thought, maybe the xenomorph is just another suit. What if the thing that burst from your chest is not an alien lifeform. What if it is 'you' being redesigned as a perfect lifeform or being reformed into some type of bio-armour.
