Peter Weyland was looking for a way to become immortal or just live longer in the flick so why didnt he do some surgery thing? Like have his brain implanted into a David android body and give it a new face. Very similar to Robo Cop if that makes more sense. i mean wouldn't that make a little bit more sense to do instead of going to a planet in the galaxy that was far, far away? (stupid Star Wars reference I know)

Well, designing a robot is one thing, but transferring the consciousness of a human being into a robot body is another. I would say the tech still doesnt exist for this. David is an amazing creation, but really just a glorified PC. (Mac maybe) A brain is still an organic organ, and has a shelf life. Until they can distill a man's essence down to 1's and 0's, they will never be able to give us 'robot bodies'

I get what your saying and it would make more sense to transfer the brain and all essential body parts to keep the brain alive in a new synthetic body like a cyborg instead of roaming the Galaxy looking for the great maker to bestow the fountain of life upon you . I have seen old photos of scientists doing head swaps with monkeys here's a link Transplant Surgery - Dr. Robert White Anything is possible given time and lots of money. *Link made clickable by Svanya.

Even inside a robot body, a brain does not magically become immortal. It would still be subject to decay and degeneration as it is still a piece of meat. For Weyland, spending a trillion dollars and hiding out in a virtual reality with a bunch of virtual hotties is a pretty 'easy' approach to immortality as well.

well wasnt david eating something when he was doing his language courses? i mean the mind can live for a long time if given proper nourishment right?

@poach; It's unlikely that happened because A: Weyland would never have accepted being subservient to anyone like David was and B: if he was successful in implanting his mind into a robot body he no doubt would have wanted to announce it to the world. Interesting theory though. :)

i theorize that weyland could transfer his consciousness to an android brain, but being 'superstitious' - as they like to make a deal of in the movie - he was afraid that his human consciousness would end anyways leaving a copy of himself that isnt him. in effect; he was afraid that his 'soul' wouldnt be transferred to the new body. and thats why he made the desperate attempt in person to ask the engineer for immortality. meanwhile back on earth the copy is yet to be activated pending how the lv223 mission pans out. being the super rich bugger he is, he would not share this tech with anyone, except maybe his own family; it would create threats to his legacy. all pretty thin but its possible they might go that way. it would explain why they used a young actor to play weyland
