Prometheus 2 - The solitary Child

The solitary Child I think in my mind, I think the 2nd movie starts out back at earth, back in the early stages of the cave paintings. In this scene, you get a sense of knowing that the Engineer’s DNA is not just the building blocks for human evolution, but also a map for them to find the creator. By that I mean, the art and creative muse leads them to these stars. Even David, not really knowing himself, is just another cave painting in his own right. He is just another way to find the truth. And you will see that more as time goes by. In the start you will see that certain people have a strong trait of seeing the implanted map, by the Engineers. Even though there is no Prometheus ship technically left, I think in our minds the Engineer’s ship is now symbolically the Prometheus 2. In the 2nd movie we start seeing a symbiotic relationship with Shaw and David. They both clearly have reasons why they need to continue to the Engineer’s planet. Shaw feels that if she finds the creator, thinking it will allow her closer to her father and the meaning of life. In David’s mind, the death of his father has placed him state of being a father himself. The relationship he had with his father, left his frustrated, alone, and confused. It was during his father’s death that David has assumed a father relationship by taking over the company. In his mind he wants to be a better father than his father was too him. He held the hologram Earth in his hand on the Engineer’s ship, and now he wants it for real. So now his focus is to be the FATHER of the company. This is when we start seeing where the COMPANY thinks of profits before people. It progress with David. Initally we see Shaw coming out of hyper sleep from the Engineer sleep pod. We start seeing Shaw and David working together on the ship. They try to work together to get his body reconnected to his head, but it didn’t work the they way they hoped. Humorously, later on, Shaw gets tired of carrying David’s head in a sack. So, she rigs a pole or staff that she found on board on the Engineer’s ship and attaches David’s head too it. We get the sense here that even though she needs him, he is still just as functional as a pig head on a pole. As Shaw and David (On a stick) roam the ship they find a room that explains bits and pieces of the Engineers, similar to the one on the first Engineer ship. Explaining that there are two factions of Engineers. Both of them are religious in nature, but both religions are far apart from their beliefs. Similar to Catholic vs Christian(etc) as far as they see religion. And because of the conflict of their beliefs, they reside on different planets. Also during this time they see images suggesting that the Aliens were made by them and at one point actually were part of their lives, just like guard dogs. It also suggests that they designed the Preditor / Yautja race, and many more. They do at one point cross a room that suggests it is an Alien room, but Shaw refuses to enter. At one point Shaw finds out that they are not going to what she thinks is Paradise, but yet another planet. Of course she is outraged with David. They finally arrive at the ship’s destination. Roaming off of the ship and seeing all the different plants and animals etc, when they are surrounded by an a group of xenomorph. David immediately quotes The Black Hole by saying, “Out of the flying pan, into the fryer.” The Xenomorphs are about to attack when an Engineer comes by and stops the xenomorphs by blowing a whistle. The Xenomorphs return to the Engineer’s side. At this point we noticed that the Engineer is not an adult, but a young Engineer. And following him are many young engineer children. (Decided to go with a Lord of Flies since the first movie delt with Lawrence of Arabia.) The Engineer children wave them to follow. It is an awkward situation as Shaw and David follow them to camp, walking by the Xenomorphs and such. Finally the Engineer kids do explain their situation. The Engineer explains that children are born here. The infants are able to care for their themselves as soon as they are born.(Just like an ant) The lead child then tells them that the planet is a religious place to develop their beliefs. The Engineer adults do not normally come to the planet, only to pick up the ones who are one with their beliefs. A ship comes to test the young Engineer. Once you discover your religion, you enter the ship for your final test. Afterwards, one of the young Engineers decides to help David with his body problem. He helps by creating a bio-electrical body for him to get around. The body portion is just like a human body. One that can feel pain etc. During the process of hooking his head to the new body, David twists and twitches around like he is in great pain. Shaw asks the Engineers to stop. But David stops her and says, the trick Mrs. Shaw is not minding that it hurts. It is also during this time that Shaw finds out the stick is more than just a stick. And she decides to keep it. But after David gets his body, you can tell he is back to no good. Since David can now walk around, he takes this time to check out the Engineers’ technology. He also finds the opportunity to transmit his program back by way of the young Engineer’s communication device. It also at this time we found out that the band of young Engineers are not truly telling the whole story. Most of the children from this group have already taken the test. The test measures your wisdom and of course religion. If both conditions are not met doing the test, the participant fails. And loss of life occurs frequently. Test is similar to how the Predators test their kind. But for the Engineers, killing all the Aliens will not win the game. It is a test of wisdom and religion, not how many Aliens there are to kill. In the instance of these young Engineers, they were able to condition Aliens as guard dogs to get pass the test. But it didn’t prove that they were devoted to their religion, so they failed. The test doors opened and the Engineers left with their guard dogs. They became resentful of their religion. And now seek others on the planet to join their cause. Sometimes even killing others with the Alien pack they have if others don’t commit. Shaw leaves the young Engineers and David behind, after hearing of this. She decides she is in danger and leaves. She finally wonders in a camp where a lone young Engineer lives. He is older and larger the most of the other kids. He doesn’t want to be around Shaw, but tolerates her presents anyway. They finally come to a point where he tells her that he doesn’t believe in religion. And in their culture, if you don’t believe, you are not allowed to join the rest of the community. Hence, you are alone for life. Shaw finally tells the Engineer about the group of young kids and what they are up to. He doesn’t seem to care about them until they are jumped by the band of younger engineers. The lead engineer grabs and Shaw and tells the older Engineer to join or die. He refuses, so the Xenomorphs are sent to attack him. The young engineers leave him to face the Xenomorphs, taking Shaw with them. The older engineer is able to defeat the Xenomorphs by some nifty weapons he made. After the fight the older engineer decides to remaining by himself won’t help Shaw out. So he goes out and tries to get help with some other younger Engineers in the area. Some of them won’t help because of his choice, but others decide to go with him. They fight the younger engineers back but the older engineer gets captured in the fight. They withdraw with Shaw, David, and the older Engineer. The other younger Engineers pursue them to the ship that Shaw and David came in on. The remaining renegade engineers go into the ship and head for the Alien testing chamber. We can’t leave this planet, one of them says, until the test is complete. So all of them enter the chamber and the test is started. Before the test starts, David throws her the staff she had and tells her with a smile, you are going to need this. (Smart ass tone.) As in most of the Aliens movies there is a battle, and some of young engineers die. The lead engineer actually is able to use a type of hypnotics on some of the xenomorphs to help protect them. It is when they get in the main chamber that the test changes. The ship noticing the intelligence of the old engineer now opens the head statue in the end of the room to revel the 3 king aliens. (yes, The Three Kings. I went there.) They are larger in size than most and are heavily armored. They can actually spit out blood, or in the alien’s case acid. They also have the ability to shoot out spikes that can infect the host. They immediately cut David in half, to which he say, again being headless. Will it ever end. That is when the foot of one of the kings crushes his head. Finally the 3 King Aliens corner Shaw and the older Engineer in a room, where it all started. As they back up the older Engineer steps in a hole. He realizes that the staff that Shaw has been using to fight all this time is also a key. He takes it from Shaw and places it in the hole in the floor. The staff transforms into a cross before their eyes. The larger emerald stone that was in the center of the room shatters and embryo queen. The three kings start fighting among themselves, until only one is left. He is wounded badly but now faces Shaw and the older engineer. He attacks the older Engineer and wounds him with a spike in the back. He then focus on Shaw. She is able to finally put him down with cross. Her finally actions are to smash the queen embryo to bits. It is then that the ship’s engines turn on and doors start closing. The Engineer finally get up and tells Shaw that she can’t go with him. She must get off the ship. He has to go alone. She keeps asking why, but the Engineer pushers her to the front. You must go, he says. They will help you get home. But I don’t want to go home she says. The door closes and the Engineer heads to the main bridge. He gets in the chair and the ship takes off. As the ship is heading off Shaw is asking the other engineers if they can take her to Paradise. He says, so you want to go home? No, Shaw says, I need to talk to the adult Engineers, I need answers, so I need to goto Paradise. The young engineer smiles and says, “I think you are mistaken. We call Earth "Paradise". The scene changes and we see the ship carrying the older engineer to Lv 426. As he lands on the surface of LV426, his chest explodes. The last thing we see is David being assembled on Earth. Before being programmed we see the master computer change programs. Dave sits up and looks in the mirror next to him, and pushes his hair back as in Prometheus.
