MemberOvomorphJan-20-2016 12:29 AMI read recently that Scott originally wanted to have Ripley killed at the end of Alien, with the last shot being the alien dictating her log in Ripley's voice. Anyone know anything about this?

MemberOvomorphJan-20-2016 7:36 AMAs far as I know it's real, but I can't remember where I read about it at.

Yes that's true felix. Ridley wanted to have the alien rip Ripley's head off, then continue to that last scene as you have said. Ridley has mentioned that in interviews.
Fox/Brandywine thought that it was too graphic, so Ridley had to back down on that idea. Just think, the Alien franchise would have been very different if Ripley had been killed off!
That would have left Jonesy as the only survivor.....Jonesy v ALIEN, Jonesy v Predator, I can see it now.....hahaha

MemberPraetorianJan-20-2016 11:18 AMAnother idea Ridley had was to have the Alien drag Ripley out of the airlock!
Filming the Fourth Act - Strange Shapes
“The Alien was going to be blown out of the door of the Narcissus,” explained Ridley, “with Ripley trailing after it. It was an outrageous ending, but I thought it was wonderful. I thought it had to happen, but only if it could be so believably done that it would be real. It had to become so outrageous that it would want to make you cheer or clap."

MemberDeaconJan-22-2016 9:47 AMYes i did hear this too... and also before they wanted Dallas to be the Hero and Ripley just a Victim....
"the alien dictating her log in Ripley's voice"
This is interesting, but would maybe had given the Alien too much inteligence... but lets not forget that Star Beast the Organism was juvenile and had not parents to teach it to become social, and the Race who had seeded the Spores to procreate their kind was described as a Ancient Civilized Culture..
But the movie Evolved and the Xenomorph was born and i dont think a Civilized Culture quite like the Engineers, or Humans or say Predators have is something we can attribute to the Xeno.
However if we go back to that qoute "the alien dictating her log in Ripley's voice"
And apply that to Shaws SOS at the end of Prometheus.... i would assume David would more likely be able to fake a Shaws Voice.... this is someway to pass Shaw off as dead, or indeed used for some other means by David and thus why she plays little part in Alien: Covenant.. but i dont see this idea being the case at all

MemberNeomorphJan-23-2016 6:31 AMYeah I have heard about this also, although I am not sure if it is correct since I don't have anything to back that up with.

MemberOvomorphJan-23-2016 5:32 PMI've heard this from long ago, but figured if there were no Ridleygrams, it was just talk. Can't imagine how it would've been executed.

MemberOvomorphJan-25-2016 5:03 PMThat ending makes a lot of sense from the "perfect organism" standpoint. My formal college training was in biology/zoology, and sometimes the idea of a toxic organism has been argued...Basically an animal that is completely deleterious to any ecology it is introduced into. The alien comes as close to anything representing that in any film I've seen. I still love that line from A3: "...it kills on sight, and is generally unpleasant."
