Weyland merging with Yutani in Alien: Covenant?
Chris
AdminEngineerApr-17-2016 7:02 AMDo you think we will see the merger, or a least beginning of a merger between the Weyland Corporation and the Yutani Corporation in Alien: Covenant?
At this point, we don't know if the Covenant vessel is Weyland property or not. It's possible it could be a Yutani company ship following Weyland's leads in hopes of gathering new information and possibly dipping in on Weyland's discoveries.
Could Weyland and Yutani both be racing towards LV-223? Recent reports suggest a gun battle between security personnel and (we assume to be unarmed) scientists. What reason could elicit such a reaction if not by a rival company trying to impose on the other's discoveries?
It's likely Yutani will be referenced in Alien: Covenant and may set in motion events which lead to their eventual merger. What do you think?

MemberOvomorphApr-17-2016 1:24 PMIt would make sense if the board of directors at Weyland corporation would push for a merge between themselves, and the Yutani corporation. With both Peter en Meredith dead, the company basically lost 2 of the major share holders, so that means that others are running the show now.
It might also be that Fox and Scott Free decide to handle this plot point in an extensive viral video campaign, comparable to the virals they did for Prometheus.

AdminEngineerApr-17-2016 1:50 PMI would be totally fine with that approach if they decided to announce the merging through the film's marketing. It'd save screentime which could be put to better use explaining more of the film's inevitable mysteries. I really hope the marketing for Alien: Covenant is as intricate and engaging as the one for Prometheus was.

MemberXenomorphApr-17-2016 3:27 PMYes, in the year 2122 it's Weyland/Yutani. So we have about a decade if they plan to make something out of the merger.
What I think works:
Weyland has lost it's founder and has little resources, or leadership, to direct a search and rescue mission.
Yutani just happens to have a colony ship headed for LV-243. They agree to stop and check on LV-223. They find the wreckage and the tombs. The David synth aboard the Covenant figures it out. The Covenant follows the path set by Shaw/David.
The problem is:
The colonists expect to wake on LV-243! Not a unknown planet! Don't think they would be happy with that change.
So the Covenant might be a DNA/egg ship and the future colonists are frozen embryos...so they have little say in the matter. :-) and the Covenant is simply going to find the most suitable planet....so instead of LV-243 they choose paradise. A little longer in cryo-sleep...But a larger payout $$$$$!
If Yutani has 100's of egg ships scouring the galaxy for suitable planets, then they have good odds of find Paradise without clues from LV-223....But if they only have 1 or 2 colony ships...then I think the chance are 1 in 10,000(or far greater) that they would 'stumble upon' Paradise without some LV-223 clues.

MemberDeaconApr-19-2016 10:12 PMThere would be a Merger i think so, and i hope we get the seeds of such over the next few movies.
As far as your theory... MonsterZero... yes i think the same thing with Covenant Crew... if any ship went to LV-223 first or even detected Shaws SOS they would be in the know how somewhat.
So with Covenant i have to assume the crew do not have a idea of what to expect... do we even know for sure if the ship departed for Paradise before Prometheus landed on LV-223

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2016 4:11 AMI think it's extremely likely that the merger will be addressed in Covenant. It's possible that the title is somewhat related to the deal made between the companies: one way to interpret it might be as a reference to the ongoing negotiations between the megacorps (as well as other types of deals, contracts, and covenants made or broken).
The crew might need a little extra security in order to prevent other megacorps from claiming the Engineer tech for themselves. Maybe the negotiations with Yutani corp haven't concluded, and the company isn't taking chances. They don't want to share anything and everything unless absolutely necessary. Meaning the companies haven't agreed to a written or verbal contract yet. The deal isn't finalized; however, they've been negotiating.
Yutani corp backs out of the deal at the last minute, before setting out after the potential bioweapons on their own. From Weyland corp's perspective, Yutani corp is the one breaking the Covenant. They'll be charged with betraying the terms of a preliminary agreement made when intel was shared in an attempt to "seal the deal."
What if this time around, our main character is briefed on various aspects of the situation beforehand? However, the hologram cube that Daniels receives from the higher-ups is to be kept secret, as it's "for her eyes only..."
A holographic Weyland corp representative might pop up to explain a few key details about the failed Prometheus project. Although their message is pretty goddamn brief (a very brief briefing in Daniels' opinion); she has to watch it twice to make sure she understands what the guy is saying. The hologram offers up valuable intel, which she thinks may be useful. If the company knew more, they would share, right? She's forced to assume that the company doesn't know everything yet, because she's used to "being in the know."
