The Covenant

MemberFacehuggerJune 21, 2016I think the size of this ship points to it being a shuttle/drop-ship, rather than the Covenant.
Lots of the design elements for the Prometheus were based on many of Ron Cobb's [unused] Alien designs.
This Bridge Design-
This Autodoc Design-
It would appear that just as with Prometheus, Ridley may be going back to elements of Cobbs work, especially for the older Covenant class ship.

I must agree. This must be the bridge of the dropship that takes the survey team down to the planet surface. I was just looking at Ron Cobb;s designs in the Alien:Vault Book and I saw similar designs in the picture with Danny McBride with the design of the bridge. It would make sense to have a small ship to take a team down to the surface and a command ship with the rest of the crew.
Didn't they have a bigger ship in space while taking a smaller one when they went down to Hadleys Hope (Aliens)? This reminds me of Aliens for some reason.
In Aliens they had the "Sulaco" and then arrived on the planet in a tactical fighter drop ship. I believe the ship here for their landing will be bigger and not tactical but a ship that is design for geological purposes for planet survey,
...and these are Ron Cobb's designs for the ALIENS Dropship [and APC]

David007: That makes sense that it will be another ship since it isn't a military mission.
It is an observation that this ship is designed as a colony establishment ship. If the planet can not be colonized why take the whole ship and down and endanger the who crew? I am going with the drop ship theory that is used for the geological and science crew to go and land, inspect the place and then give the thumbs up. I am also think that being that this a large crew, a bigger ship will be needed as this ship I would assume spends plenty of time out in space going to planets that the company has compiled for them to go to.
Ron may have done the construction drawings for the dropship but it was James Cameron's design.
As for Covenant - looks like a simple location prop that will be digitally extended into a much larger ship. Like how they had the practical hangar in Prometheus but the rest of the ship was CG.

The seat and autodoc pictures above look just like from Alien. The seats don't look anything like the ones in McBride picture.
The seats are different, going for a similar style but are different to the Ron Cobb designs.
with regards to the set photo, i had mentioned this movie the same as SM did, and that its only a portion and Prometheus Sets only used small portions of the ships on a Green Screen (well parts of the prop where Green) these included the Hanger Scene but also the Openings to the Juggernaught that Shaw abseiled down.

Steve Burg designed and concepts Prometheus ship and some of his work does have that more closer to the Nostromo look to it and so the Covenant could have a similar feel and look to maybe these as Steve is working on Alien Covenant designs too as i had posted here...

*SIGH*
@S.M...Yes, they are from A L I E N, that's the point I am making!
In The Furious Gods docu the concept artists mention that those Cobb-ALIEN designs for the bridge and autodoc, influenced the look of the bridge and medi-doc-table-thingy in Prometheus.

I loved the Prometheus, it's my favorite vehicle in the franchise. My favorite angle is when it's parked and the RT01 is zooming away. It looks vaguely Japanese, and huge and brutal, like its ready to attack.
Most of the other vehicles just look like battering rams with antennas, a bunch of shapes glued together. The covenant is obviously a different class of ship but with Ridley and co. at the helm I bet it's still going to be pretty cool looking.
I expect the Covenant to look severely less advanced. More closely relatable to the Nostromo than the Prometheus, but not quite as bulky.
Predator: Badlands - coming November 7th, 2025
@Lone - So when you said they were 'unused Alien designs' you weren't making the point they were 'unused Alien designs'? Seeing as how the autodoc (and now oddly absent seat) was in fact 'used' in Alien?
I'm afraid the condescending *sigh* doesn't make it any clearer.
@S.M I said that some of his designs were unused!
I removed the offending seats, is that a problem?
The Prometheus was a beauty. It looked amazing, all sleek and shiny. The front carapace was neat and I loved the functional engine-becomes-landing leg.
I have a soft spot for the Nostromo. I loved how each deck had a different feel. The garage-landing leg level was like a dirty gold cathedral. Every deck had incredible detail.

Tell you what, I'll stop posting all together as my phrasing appears to be incoherent. Does anyone else *uckin* understand what I was trying to say?

"Lots of the design elements for the Prometheus were based on many of Ron Cobb's [unused] Alien designs."
Righto, then..
For the record I thought it was great they used his bridge concept on Prometheus. Would've loved for him to have worked on the film properly.
