Blomkamp's Alien will be an Alternate Path from Alien 3 and Alien 4

MemberFacehuggerJuly 07, 2016So, Sigourney Weaver confirmed that the new Blomkamp Alien will in fact ignore Alien 3 and Alien 4. This is some good news as they now have a clean slate to go from.
It’s just as if, you know, the path forks and one direction goes off to three and four and another direction goes off to Neill’s movie -- Sigourney Weaver

@David007; They don't "have a clean slate to go from," because that "slate" has not been wiped clean, and it never will be.
Myself, and I would guess, many other fans of ALIEN 3 will not dismiss it just because Blomkamp and FOX suggest we do.
It seems that Weaver suggests that this Blomkamp creation is an alternative path.
Therefor, it will be left upto the viewer to decide which one is their chosen path.
This of course will create all kinds of canonical issues.
The poster was good though!
Totally Agreed Necronom 4
It will be interesting how they are going to tackle this and i hope its not just a case of a Re-boot Sequel to Aliens where its up to fans to decide which path they wish to follow.

I believe they will stem from Alien Covenant and what Scott's next two stories will tell. As stated, it is 20th Century Fox's way of rebooting the Franchise much like they are doing with Shane Black's Predator. I am interested to see what will happen and I must say I was not a fan of Alien 3 and Alien 4...grant it, they will exist but anything is possible in the writing universe. It seems to be a big push in the studios as well to revive series and like many, it can kill the series or give it some new elements.
This was part of the Aliens 30th reunion post I wrote about yesterday. Her stance and comments concerning Alien 5 have no changed for about a year now, she's just rehashing the same ideas over and over again. Sites running with her quotes as anything groundbreaking are straight click bait. How many times has she gone over this? Haha Even Michael Biehn mentioned where Alien 5 was headed months and months ago.
Until Comic-Con passes by, I doubt we will hear anything "new" about Alien 5.
Predator: Badlands - coming November 7th, 2025
I don't spend much time online and get to read all the articles and clippings that are out there. Though I know production on Blomkamp's film is still far out there and between now and then, a lot an change.
I'd much rather they make Alien 5 like 'Rogue One'. Base it around a Alien universe scene or theme.
The mining ship Federon was 3 months behind the Nostromo...It saw the flash and came to investigate.....That would be a cool story.
Oh...and drop the Alien 5 name....Sounds too much like a series. (Alien 5 takes place before Alien 3? Alien 3 doesn't count? WTF?!)
They have a name for Alien 5, they have not chosen to release it yet...
Blomkamp said he had a name but the name gave too much away and something about if it never worked they would be dead in the water..... but Ridley liked the name.
Maybe this is where the Prometheus Hell on Earth rumors came from... maybe Alien 5 was Hell on Earth? or similar?
Who knows..... but it seemed that it was going to be very big and bold and basically give away the movie.

I'm reminded of the Alien Earth War graphic novel series that came out when I was kid. That be a really good made if he went in that direction.
Oh God, you might be on to something there BigDave. Lets face it, Blomkamps films, so far, have been based on Earth so maybe this will stick to form.
I hope not though! The last thing the ALIEN universe needs is an Earth based story! A scene or two wouldn't be bad, but a full on Earth invasion story like war of the worlds or independence day? No thanks!
The poster was good though!
@David007, yeah no doubt I'm glad you shared the info! It's just funny how some writers blow this stuff out of proportion haha
@BigDave, the Hell in Earth fisaco... oh God I almost forgot about that haha! It is worth noting Blomkamp's mention about the title of Alien 5 being a major spoiler in itself, but I doubt it was Hell on Earth. If anything I this might have to do with Newt's role than the film's setting. I have no idea what it could be called though, I've seen some great guesses!

As expected and not surprising. I love A3 however can see the story arc picking up with much more interest and intrigue now without diminishing the brilliance of A3.
Given the track record of Blomkamp and nostalgia driven sequels I'm not optimistic about this project at all. For me, Alien 3 will always be the sequel to Aliens, so if they are going down this path I would prefer they just make it as an alternative sequel and leave it up to the fans to decide what really happened after Aliens. If they are going to make it all a dream, or give some stupid alternate universe explanation it will just highlight the desperation.
Up until now, each Alien movie brought in the unique style of the different directors, making each movie something unique. It might not have given the perfect result each time, but I prefer that over an Aliens rehash that will likely feel like a greatest hits.
Given that Ridley Scott wants to make two more sequels after Alien: Covenant, I doubt Blomkamp's Aliens 2 will go in production anythime soon though, so for now we are safe...
I think maybe the name would give away such events, and who knows where the Hell on Earth came from...
When this Prometheus Hell on Earth leak came about, the source said thats not the case... this leak also said Shaw would die... which they said is Technically not the case..... they did say at the time Prometheus was to be called simply Paradise Lost.... or Pandemonium but they was considering keeping or dropping Prometheus.
They never knew what Blomkamps movie would be called though.... but maybe somewhere the name floated about that could be taken for Hell on Earth?
What is known is that its a big bold name that would right away give away the movie....
I suppose it would be as if Prometheus was called instead...
Alien Omega... Alien Genesis (which is one Spaights drafts) Alien Inception etc...
Then this would lead us to expect we are going to see the Origin of the Xenomorph...
So i think Blomkamps name would be similar as in its name would give away the Plot.... maybe like if it was called Alien: Apocalypse or Alien: Armageddon etc
It could draw you into a mass scale outbreak that has a serious threat to Earth or other major established system of Mankind.

As far as the plans...
Well Originally it seemed it was to be set not far after Aliens... concept work does not show a Hicks or Ripley aged some 30 years...
But seems now its set 20 plus years and will feature a Newt who would be being passed the Torch by Ripley.
The earlier work seems to show a Outpost at least that has a Oriental Feel, and Humans who are Oriental and even as far as being Korean..... this is who have captured a Engineer Ship.
It would be interesting to see if they are still going with this aspect but it certainly does not look Weyland-Yutani

As far as the Alternative Path....
I hope they have some event causes a tear in Space that then throws up a alternative reality at that point... one Sulaco goes the route of Alien 3 and the other Ripley and co get HOME... have a normal life for a while... before the Horror begins again..
Problem with this would be the whole Egg on Sulaco in Alien 3 again... as if a Egg was on that ship, then it should also be on the Alternative Ships...
So maybe Cryo-Dream is the easiest way to pass those movies off. But Blomkamp said they are not going that route.
