MemberNeomorphOct-20-2016 8:29 AMI like them, they are a lot better than what we were given. Wouldn't the spike that comes out of the mouth of the monster be a disadvantage when it eats? The spike to me seems to be a disadvantage of some sort.

MemberDeaconOct-20-2016 12:02 PMA number of these are close to the eventual concepts that was worked on for the movie.... just when Prometheus came about they had chosen only a few designs to evolve.
Number 8 is similar to the Hammerpedes its looks like a Pred-Alien Hammerpede lol
14-15 led to the Baby Head and Fifield designs.
2 was similar to the Ultramorph...
And 4 was what the Deacon Mural could be based off and the final Deacon a re-design of. But indeed the other Deacon concepts and those HR Giger designs where better but the Deacon was what it was to show-case the Black Goo and what it does and how its connected and the Deacon at the end is a Human/Xeno Hybrid we have to remember.
i do like the what looks like the Urns design of Gigers or is it some kind of baptismal font that contains maybe Black Goo or Sacrificial Goo rather than Holy Water.
Wander what Giger was thinking of when he had drawn the female imagery upon it?
Hopefully some of Gigers work gets used in the next few movies, as i feel HR Gigers Touch upon the designs of the Xeno and his other Bio-Mechanical works that carried a lot of the Xenomorph DNA

MemberPraetorianJan-29-2017 7:41 AMI actually posted some of those on Aorta's Franchise Rants thread! Giger had already worked on the murals before these concepts came about.
There wasn't much production time left when Giger visited Ridley at the Prometheus art department. Giger and Ridley sat down together and sketched some ideas out. It was great to see them together, I thought it was very classy of Sir Ridley to include H.R in that way, and let him view the Prom concept artists interpretations and evolutions of his original work!
Interestingly the baby head was elaborated upon by Ridley, I have a strong feeling we will see it used in AC!

Aw, dang it. You beat me to it ;)
Indeed, it was awesome to see the two masters (Giger and Scott) collaborate once more. Pure brilliance.
Ooh, Baby Head in Alien Covenant? That's an interesting prospect, could the Neomorph have such a resemblance?

MemberPraetorianJan-29-2017 7:49 AMNo worries my friend, it's great that you have created this thread for others to view Giger's sketches! :)
Given that H.R is no longer with us, it gives added weight to those ideas and adds a little bit more to ALIEN lore for Ridley and him to have gotten together again, even in a small way!

MemberPraetorianJan-29-2017 8:12 AMI have always wondered what H.R actually thought about his original SJ being re-envisioned as an Engineer in a suit!

Ah! Now that's a good question! I'll get back to this thread when I find an answer :) Give me 2 minutes

MemberNeomorphJan-29-2017 8:29 AMHmmmm... The information on Giger's opinion of the suit seems sparse.
I'm assuming that he thought it was interesting-- though he probably had a completely different idea in mind---like the Space Jockey was actually a sculpture by an Alien species, used to trick creatures into thinking this was the pilot.
(Purely based on speculation, I can't find any documentation of Giger's thoughts)

MemberPraetorianJan-29-2017 8:35 AMAs far as I am aware, there are no quotes about his feelings on the matter.
Given the mutual respect that exsisted between RS and HR, I am certain that Giger would have been far too gracious to say if he wasn't thrilled by it!

MemberPraetorianJan-29-2017 8:39 AMThere's only the footage from The Furious Gods to go by. Ridley points to the SJ chair and suit designs saying "This...is this...it's a suit!"
Giger gives nothing much away, just kind of politely nods in acceptance and perhaps slight surprise?

MemberNeomorphJan-29-2017 8:46 AMHaha Giger is very reserved. But awesome! I've always wanted to see the Furious Gods documentary, glad to know that Giger liked the suit.

MemberPraetorianJan-29-2017 8:49 AMYou have to see it, it's about Eight hours of absolutely amazing content including galleries [including H.R's artwork] and interviews, with little detailed enhancement pods.
It's an absolute classic, one of the best film documentaries ever!
